The LA Times interviewed four female inmates as they left the LA County Jail where Paris Hilton had been held. These are their case studies:

Rhonda Thompson: 36 y/o female
Time served: 4 days
Infraction: Driving with a suspended license
Medical condition: Painful fibroid tumors on her uterus

Robbie Davenport: 42 y/o female
Time served: 45 days
Infraction: Probation Violation--Driving with a suspended license, two prior DUIs (comparable to Hilton's case)
Medical condition: None

Valerie Jacquez: 48 y/o female
Time served: 240 days
Infraction: Possession of a Heroin Needle (6 priors)
Medical condition: High blood pressure, seizures (under medication)

Shannon (no last name given): 33 y/o female
time served: 30 days
Infraction: Drug possession (2 priors)
Medical condition: Bipolar, epilepsy

Multiple prisoners also reported that inmates were placed on lockdown while Hilton walked through the jail.

For comparison purposes, here are the details of Hilton's criminal record. I was shocked when I read it--she failed to complete court ordered rehab and she was caught doing 70 in a 35 zone at night with no headlights! They could easily have charged her with reckless driving and she'd be looking at a lot more than 45 days. If anything, she was under-sentenced:

In September 2006, Hilton was arrested and charged with driving under the influence with a blood alcohol content of 0.08%, the minimum at which it is illegal to drive in California. Hilton's drivers license was subsequently suspended in November 2006, and in January 2007 she pled no contest to the alcohol-related reckless driving charge. Her punishment was 36 months' probation and fines of about $1,500.

On January 15, 2007, Hilton was pulled over for driving with a suspended license and signed a document acknowledging that she was not permitted to drive. On February 27, 2007 Hilton was caught driving 70 MPH in a 35 MPH zone, again with a suspended license. She also did not have her headlights on even though it was after dark. Prosecutors in the office of the Los Angeles City Attorney charged that those actions, along with the failure to enroll in a court-ordered alcohol education program constituted a violation of the terms of her probation.

I think this bitch should have been thrown to the wolves and kept with the general population, and while we are at it she should have had a sign on her back that said "kick me". I mean what she did was so wrong that we should definitely not take any precaution that some person would want to damage her permanently, like slash her face or rape her just because she is Paris Hilton. I mean she deserves it!

You know, I wish people were as outraged about the war criminal that lives at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. as they are about this nonstory. Alas, I wish people gave as big of a shit that our soldiers are dying while Paris sits in jail and everyone throws virtual rotten tomatoes at her for being a scarlet woman... all of a sudden I am beginning to feel sorry for her... it is beginning to become a piling on.. and I am not talking CM... I am talking about the media coverage period.

It is not like anyone actually died, even though what she did was very dangerous. People do it every day, perhaps we should have a thread just about people who have fucked up with the law... it might attract half a dozen posts without Paris Hilton's name attached.

I wonder if this judge enjoys all the media coverage from Paris Hilton's reflected glory.

People seem to want to throw out how Paris is getting more coverage than the war, but what people fail to realize is that sometimes you don't want to think about that. People need things to distract them from the bad things going on in the world. If everyone went around all day worrying about every last thing that is happening in the world, suicide rates would be high and psychiatry would be the highest paying job market in the country. So yes, it is ludicrous that people are bitching and moaning about Paris, but it's a temporary distraction. I'm sure in a few weeks people will be picking up with their anti-war protests once more.
