This writing was done 10 years ago, and I have no idea what the "political climate" was at the time of the writing. I realize that it's probably not something that a person new to the lifestyle would take into consideration, but for the purposes of this debate I think it should be mentioned.

Fair enough and a good point.

I, personally, only ever noticed any clash in online environments. When I was out and about at HOD, Backdrop, etc, I didn't see any evidence of such. That said, I don't think people would have forked over money at places like HOD if they weren't going to utilize the spaces their for S/m activities, so it's possible that those who were strictly into D/s just didn't have a reason to be at the places where the S/m crowds would gather.

For those who are unaware, the bulk of CastleRealm was written during the time that Colm and jade were in a LDR, 2000 miles apart. I don't know if that matters to anyone, but I've tried not to allow it to color my perceptions and to take the words presented at face value.

That said, some of the other excerpts that I hope to put forth were part of CastleRealm but not written by jade or Colm and I am not privy to the personal or intimate details of the various authors on/offline activities with just a few exceptions.

“I hear by state that all opinions expressed in the following post is the ideas of aka Kostly, and are not to be assumed or interpreted to be judgmental or personal attacks on ones personal preferred lifestyle. Thereby the writer of this document:
  • Does not presume any such knowledge!
  • Expresses personal opinion rather then fact.
  • And reserves the right to later contradict himself.”

Truth is, that to write anything without a personal aspect would read like a legal document (which I attempted to show above). I know CastleRealm is a site dedicated to two different peoples lives in a very romantic and loving setting.
It is natural instinct to judge people based on there individual ideas or situations which we ourselves do not agree with, or that are contrary to our own beliefs.  People in this lifestyle, and people in the homosexual community fall victim to this all the time.  Yet because they (and us) are judged doesn't mean they are more tolerant of others.  In fact it tends to cause people to feel isolated, alone, and fearful which seems to foster additional prejudice and rigid views.  Allot of BDSM people are very acceptable of others, while some are frightened into the my way is the ONLY way. Wake up, the world isn't black and white.
I am a romantic Dom, and I relate to allot of what is said on CastleRealm, and how it is said.  The problem is NOT CastleRealm, but is the mis-belief that CastleRealm speaks on whole for the community.

I agree, partially...the problem, as I see it, is that CR was put forward as some sort of "bible" to those who expressed interest in the lifestyle online. As Bita reminded me, Colm and jade were 2000 miles apart for much of the time. It was a wonderful story that people tried and try to emulate, primarily, because much of it was online. For those whose relationships are online, it was a validation...at least, that's how I saw it.

Being that we are communicating in an online forum right now, CR has had a lot of highway miles for most of us. But, it put a lot of information together in one place without throwing all the porn in. I found a, sort of, innocent beauty in the site because of the way in which it was presented and it was a "gateway" to other resources.

And, I think that because it offered information about chat room etiquette and validation of online relationships perhaps it became an overly used resource.

Anyway, just my 2 cents...

I am a nobody just living My life the way I see it happening, but to Me CastleRealm was one of the first sites I remember reading in. True times are changing and CastleRealm came about several years back when there were not many sites available, but it seems to Me that all sites available even now are of only one person's or group's philosophy of this lifestyle. You take what you want or believe in and leave the rest alone, and if you don't agree with what one particular site has to say, then you simply click the extit and leave. There is no need to argue with someone's view of how they see this lifestyle in their own eyes. That is their choice just as it is yours to see it in a differnt view of perspective. What is right for one may not be right for another....again...this is only My opinion and it means nothing to no one but Me...

The entire reason I come to this forum is to discuss the ideas that people have surrounding WIITWD, perhaps that is not why you come to the boards, but that does not mean discussing whether or not masochist submissives and nonmasochist submissives have some sort of rivelry going as is painted by Jade on Castle Realm...

I enjoy discussing things of this nature... if you do not, it might be very productive to take your own advice. Find threads more conducive to what you want to talk about.

In the measure of myself... The only measure of substance that I find of importance is the measure of myself to the image I see in the mirror before myself.  If this image is not to my satisifaction.. then  I must work harder... If it is.. then I need to work harder.
