When I first heard of it, and honestly, the first time I tried it, puppy play was considered a form of humiliation. Walking on a leash, eating out of a doggie bowl, being caged. But a former Mistress and I tried it and it very quickly transformed itself and became one of the most genuinely affectionate, reaffirming things both of us ever did.
It can bring out in an Owner all sorts of otherwise hiddenor suppressed affectionate qualities, softness and utter joy. The joy of being a child and having a puppy. Look at any child or childless older person and see the unbounded love and affection for their pet. For a sub it allows you to express a playfulness, loyalty and trusting affection that would seem mawkish in a human. But as a puppy, both Owner and pet can give free rein to those emotions and experience and enjoy them to the fullest without embarrassment.
For a sub, because it is non verbal, it allows you a freedom of expression and physical communication I found very freeing. You emote with your body, with non language grunts, growls and sounds that are primally satisfying. For me it removed so manyinhibitions and boundaries I had as a human that I was fully able to express and enjoy myself in ways I never did before.
And I know my Mistress absolutely adored both the play and me as a puppy. She wanted to enroll me in one of the D/s Pet Play Competitions. In fact, even though I was no longer serving Her, She asked me to be Her puppy again at a DomSub Friends Demo She gave in the Spring.
The memory of it brings a fond smile to both of us.
