Sanity -> FOUND! A Body Of Work By Barack Obama! (8/22/2008 6:50:09 AM)

And here everybody claims that he's never done anything...

quote:

Exclusive: Obama's lost law review article

As president of the Harvard Law Review and a law professor in Chicago, Senator Barack Obama refined his legal thinking, but left a scant paper trail. His name doesn't appear on any legal scholarship.

But an unsigned — and previously unattributed — 1990 article unearthed by Politico offers a glimpse at Obama's views on abortion policy and the law during his student days, and provides a rare addition to his body of work.

No,sorry,that`s you guys saying that.

The less extreme elements of the public know he has accomplished quite a bit.

Thanks for sharing.

Owner59 -> RE: FOUND! A Body Of Work By Barack Obama! (8/22/2008 7:25:40 AM)

Earned his way up with nothing,to graduate magna cum laude at Harvard.

President of Harvard Law Review.

Though could have,he didn`t get a corporate lawyer job to cake out(get rich).

He became a community organizer(not a get rich quick path).

And he was an educator.Again, not a job that provides boat money or a fancy American Express card.

Not as much as some,a bit more than most.A modest middle class guy and a modest family .

President of Harvard Law Review.

This should be a fun route.  As I sense a trend forming.

And what did he accomplish or do while he was the President of the Harvard Law Review?

President of Harvard Law Review.

So grading the essays of a bunch of law students counts as accomplishment?

Maybe in that twilight zone called the Ivy League. Doesn't count for jack anywhere else.

Little tip for the player haters.

Hate the game,not the player.lol

Harvard Law Review

The Review is one of the most cited law reviews in the United States and considered by many to be the most prestigious. It is published monthly from November through June, with the November issue dedicated to covering the previous year's Supreme Court Term. The review has a circulation of about 8,000,[1] and also publishes online. In addition, it publishes the online-only Harvard Law Review Forum, a rolling journal of scholarly responses to the main journal's content.
The Harvard Law Review Association, in conjunction with the Columbia Law Review, the University of Pennsylvania Law Review, and the Yale Law Journal, publishes The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation, the most widely followed authority for legal citation formats in the United States.

Never said h was a rocket scientist.

I never doubted the validity or importance of the review.  I simply want to know what Sen. Obama accomplished while there.

Now to the trend I mentioned earlier,  if elected president are we looking at the same sort of thing?  You know nothing accomplished? Just something to think about.

Mercnbeth -> RE: FOUND! A Body Of Work By Barack Obama! (8/22/2008 8:53:20 AM)

It is a good thing that as a result of past social engineering programs the majority of the electorate is illiterate and don't, (can't?) read books. If more read the Senator's books detailing his life and philosophy I doubt he'd have made it past the primaries.

housesub4you -> RE: FOUND! A Body Of Work By Barack Obama! (8/22/2008 8:55:52 AM)

Actually in Chicago he worked in some of the cites worst areas, he worked as a communtiy organizer in Chicago’s Roseland community and the Altgeld Gardens public housing development on the city’s South Side.  Now if you want to work in a gang infested area, Altgeld Gadens was one of the worst areas in public housing, as for Roseland, pretty much like every other gang area in the city.

He was an Illinois State Senate as a Democrat. being elected in 1996 from the south side neighborhood of Hyde Park.
During these years, Obama worked with both Democrats and Republicans in drafting legislation on ethics, expanded health care services and early childhood education programs for the poor. He also created a state earned-income tax credit for the working poor. And after a number of inmates on death row were found innocent, Obama worked with law enforcement officials to require the videotaping of interrogations and confessions in all capital cases.

Granted, he does not have as much experience as others, like the 2 in the White House but they are not doing such a great job.  So experience does not mean you will be a great leader.

edit, then post... edit then post.....jeez

Oh I know exactly how bad Altgeld Gardens was (aka alligator gardens).  I will even be the first to commend him on helping to get the city to move an employment office closer, and his work with others to get the asbestos taken care of.  (See even most of his supporters around here don't know about or talk about those things)

When it comes to his legislation in the Illinios General Assembly, that record becomes very interesting to say the least.  I will avoid the comments about how he was elected through scrutinizing minute details of his opponents paperwork, and how he is crying foul now that he is receiving the same scrutiny.  In his fnal year in the Il Senate, he was handed 29 bills that were written by the president of the Senate, none of which were written by Obama.  The recent talks about his work during that time has started to cast light on exactly what he did or didn't do, as his claims about his own record are being backpeddled on by his own campaign now.

I will point you to this transcript and direct you to pages 84-90 as he talks about legislation before the senate. http://www.ilga.gov/senate/transcripts/strans92/ST033001.pdf

Or this... http://www.hyscience.com/archives/2008/08/explosive_alarm.php

The fact is he has been able to run on the claims of "Hope and Change", while hoping that folks would not look at his record, or in some cases lack thereof.  Also as Politico has reported... http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0808/12705.html
quote:

The notion that Obama hadn't written at all for the Review prompted skepticism.
"They probably don't want [to] have you [reporters] going back" to examine the Review, University of Southern California law professor (and Michael Dukakis campaign manager)  Susan Estrich said at the time.

Dam where do you find the time get all this?????  I mean Dam man!! you can track down a link for anything and you still have time to go hunting.  [8|]

Hell I can't find today's paper and I know I brought it in the hosue

MrRodgers -> RE: FOUND! A Body Of Work By Barack Obama! (8/22/2008 9:24:31 AM)

I don't give a flying fuck. Where was the body of work of any note from Reagan, Bush I or Bush II ? (aside from Reagan for a while...neither of which BTW ever had a truly private industry job working for somebody else, before they were elected) The whole question is of what do we base our decision to vote for or against anybody and all throughout history...bodies of work were irrelevant.

What body of work did Nixon bring to the white house after being Ike's VP ? Not nearly enough to beat Kennedy. We vote superficialities...like I am a fiscally conservative, deficit spender or a small govt. conservative hiring people and expanding the federal payroll like never before in our history.

It's getting to the point of a joke and 1/2 of our voting population cares so much...they don't vote at all. Why ? Because most of the issues discussed and for which most news is disseminated...are social, religious and emotional issues meant to embitter opponents, divide constituencies and polarize the voting population...and it works.

Alot of the links I provide are already researched issues.  I had questions and went looking, and saved the links.  Others are just a matter of knowing where to look.  By the way, I have a bit of experience working in a political office in Cook County, so it is kind of old hat.

It's a good thing that deer hunting season starts after the elections, eh?

You mean besides...
Bush I being a member of congress, ambassador, envoy to China, Director of Central Intelligence, and VP
Bush II being a twice elected gov of a pretty big state?

I know there is no track record....[8|]

I opposed that move.  Especially with the way the mayor decided to do so in the middle of night, while there were still cases pending trying to save that beautiful landmark.

As petty as this and Paris/Britney thing are,it won`t end soon.

This is nothing.

It`s going to get really ugly before this is over.

Some aren`t going to be content with just childish rants and superficial criticisms.

McCain can`t win on his issues,so the GOP is relying on tearing Obama down.

It`s the only way they`ll win, they know it and they`re going at it that way.

added:

Personally,I`m enjoying the "caught with pants down" expressions we`ve had such an abundance of with McCain.

The next one is when McCain explains why Obama`s position of withdrawing combat troops from Iraq is being implemented, after calling that position defeatist.

Although McCain didn`t just call him a defeatist. He and the GOP have called into question Mr Obama`s  judgment over combat troop withdrawal ,and worse.

Now, it`s US/Iraq policy.

Perhaps we have Mr Obama`s 1st foreign policy accomplishment, and he`s not even the president!

I agree this is going to get pretty ugly before it is over.
You seem to be ignoring that those childish rants and superficial criticisms are coming from both sides.

Which issues is Obama going to win on?  Please provide specifics.

Just one more quickie, who is still talking about the Britney/Paris ad in their stump speech?  I know issues.
