ORIGINAL: housesub4you Actually in Chicago he worked in some of the cites worst areas, he worked as a communtiy organizer in Chicago’s Roseland community and the Altgeld Gardens public housing development on the city’s South Side. Now if you land to work in a gang infested area, Altgeld Gadens was one of the worst areas in public housing, as for Roseland, pretty much like every other gang area in the city. He was an Illinois State Senate as a Democrat. being elected in 1996 from the south side neighborhood of Hyde Park. During these years, Obama worked with both Democrats and Republicans in drafting legislation on ethics, expanded health care services and early childhood education programs for the poor. He also created a state earned-income tax credit for the working poor. And after a number of inmates on death row were found innocent, Obama worked with law enforcement officials to require the videotaping of interrogations and confessions in all capital cases. Granted, he does not have as much experience as others, like the 2 in the White House but they are not doing such a great job. So experience does not mean you will be a great leader. Oh I know exactly how bad Altgeld Gardens was (aka alligator gardens). I will even be the first to commend him on helping to get the city to move an employment office closer, and his work with others to get the asbestos taken care of. (See even most of his supporters around here don't know about or talk about those things) When it comes to his legislation in the Illinios General Assembly, that record becomes very interesting to say the least. I will avoid the comments about how he was elected through scrutinizing minute details of his opponents paperwork, and how he is crying foul now that he is receiving the same scrutiny. In his fnal year in the Il Senate, he was handed 29 bills that were written by the president of the Senate, none of which were written by Obama. The recent talks about his work during that time has started to cast light on exactly what he did or didn't do, as his claims about his own record are being backpeddled on by his own campaign now. I will point you to this transcript and direct you to pages 84-90 as he talks about legislation before the senate. http://www.ilga.gov/senate/transcripts/strans92/ST033001.pdf Or this... http://www.hyscience.com/archives/2008/08/explosive_alarm.php The fact is he has been able to run on the claims of "Hope and Change", while hoping that folks would not look at his record, or in some cases lack thereof. Also as Politico has reported... http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0808/12705.html quote:
The notion that Obama hadn't written at all for the Review prompted skepticism. "They probably don't want [to] have you [reporters] going back" to examine the Review, University of Southern California law professor (and Michael Dukakis campaign manager) Susan Estrich said at the time.
