A UCLA San Diego fraternity made fun of Black History Month. Do you think it should be ignored? I mean, what point are you making with this thread?

Ahhh... kittin...

No... it was a black guy throwing this Black History Event and it had Zero, Zip, NADDA to do with the University. Jiggaboo Jones is an African American Entertainer.

Now..... we have been told for decades now by the people the mainstream media and by left leaning politicians that African Americans cannot be racist.

So you probably owe the Greek Brothers down this an apology as they had ZERO, ZIP, NADDA to do with this event

BTW... The angle the TV stations took and the default by those who welcomed the victimhood and relished the controversy was racism. This is supposed to be a college... so maybe some education my serve here.

The word you looking for kiddies, outraged perfessers and PC school hack… ahhh administrators, is bigoted, not racist. Even if a white entertainer threw this party you might call it bigoted but it would not have been racist.

Have you seen his response?

FatDomDaddy -> RE: Compton cookout- called "racist" (2/20/2010 5:46:52 PM)

This is Jiggaboo Jones "safer viewing" less angry response. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iGfFSZ2kcRg&feature=channel

Why?

AnimusRex -> RE: Compton cookout- called "racist" (2/20/2010 10:32:44 PM)

Sometimes subcultures fight their marginalization by defiantly embracing the buzzwords and images used to mock them.

Like how the rap group NWA used the "N" word as a way of claiming that word to neutralize it.

Or the Blue Collar Comedy guys embracing the sterotypes of redneck white trash, poking fun at their own sterotypes.

So from what I gather, this guy does this sort of thing as his comedy schtick. Which is a good thing, in my view, because the more we make race a taboo, left undiscussed, the worse it becomes.

pahunkboy -> RE: Compton cookout- called "racist" (2/21/2010 2:22:50 AM)

jigga boo has fun.

he stood the silly system on its head- and put cash in his pocket- again.  lol.

1.  the college played their part-
2. media played theirs-
3. the crowds gasping played theirs.

I thought a reporter was supposed to investigate?    This guy is a thug who served prison time.    NOT A fRATERNITY.

Bike locks for everyone here!

I suppose that I understand the impulse behind this, but at the same time one person from a group cannot give a bunch of  frat boys "permission" to engage in what the majority culture sees as mocking behavior...

Seems it was all consensual. Given that majority culture gasps, frowns, and looks for victims when one has chained someone to a wall and inflicted all sorts of painful and sensual evil upon them, even when it is consensual, then I'm of the opinion that majority culture should mind it's own business.

I am speaking of the reactions of those who are offended by this in the Black community.. Jigga Boo does not speak for every black person. It is not like he has this magic stamp that makes it okay for white kids to paint their faces black and use the "N" word. He does not have the free pass that is going to make this acceptable...

Now I am not going to condemn it either, because I do not have enough information to do so... but your statement that it is only the majority culture that is offended by this, I find that hard to believe, especially when there were Black students at UCSD who were very offended by the promotion of this party on their campus...

I'm assuming that majority culture in this case includes all races, not just white. At least that's the way I read your comment as in a consensus. Ya know, this is different than a frat just deciding this would be a fun thing to do. There was involvement on both sides of the aisle, and I'm not so sure it's a bad thing. Of course, it would automatically be a bad thing if the frat had decided to do it on its own, which is sorta how it is presented.

I dunno. I got no problem with it. Then again, if I live next to someone who hates whites, another who hates blacks, a devoutly religious person, and an atheist, I'll most likely get along fine with them all because I have no desire nor reason to police anyone elses behavior or thoughts.

I learned a long time ago that people are basically just people. The things that divide us are much smaller than the things that bind us together. But the focus always seems to be on the dividing lines, even among the most liberal who tout acceptance and tolerance. I live in America and believe in the tenets of its founding. Equal, free, and free to speak your mind regardless of whether majority agrees with it or not.

In this case, it looks more of a stunt than anything. And as far as the mockery goes, it flows both ways in this stunt - something that will be, I'm sure, overlooked.

I agree, and some frat boys do not have the sense god gave a goose

I do not agree, either it is okay or it isn't... why is it okay for one black guy to give em a free pass, but it isn't okay for them to do it on their own?

Absolutely agree, which is why I personally find this distasteful

I am speaking of those who go to that campus who saw this event being promoted by a white frat... are you saying they have no cause to feel offended by this? That I do not agree with. I would have been offended by it too... perhaps the African American studies department on campus should have promoted it, and not the all white frat boys... that would seem more appropriate to me

I do not like mockery of any sort... just me, etc

Well, the thread topic wouldn't have racist in quotes for one thing, and the free pass is the only reason there is not outright condemnation for the event.

They by all means do. And that means what to you? Offense has become the guillotine of society. The constant search for offense is one reason race will never reach Dr. King's stated desire of being seen as a person rather than for the color of skin. My personal search is for equality. That means I either accept it all or condemn it all, regardless of who fostered it or towards which group. The previous neighbor description pretty much sums up my feeling on the matter. Each of the four corners described have a right to feel the way they do. Doesn't impact what I feel nor my interaction with either.
