There are like 5 bajillion cat threads -- where are the other dog fans?
what kind of dog do you have? what is your dog doing right now? how fat is your dog?

i always liked cats but was raised with dogs and i think i get along better with dogs than i do people. well animals in general, but this is a dog thread!!

my dog is a lab/brittany spaniel mix, he's medium sized, reddish-brown, and has a pink nose. he knows how to sit, stay, roll over, fetch, give high fives, and speak (he likes talking a lot now; he's pretty loud). if i tell him "say, hi!" he'll go "aawoowooroororororrrr!!"
it's so cute!
he knows a boatload of words and phrases, too. i really don't know how many. he learns new ones every time i talk to him.
when he's really serious about listening to you, he tilts his head all over the place; sometimes he turns it so far, i think it might twist off. haha

okay! talk about your dog!

I don't have one right now. But I'm a golden retriever girl. Always had goldens. They're just so lovable, all they want is to be with you, ride in the car, go everywhere. And chase chipmunks.

I have two dogs. My westie boy is so adorable, but sadly not alpha dog material. He brings me his toy to play 'tug', but as soon as we start he gives up cos in his fuzzy little head, if the alpha (me) wants the toy then he should give it up, lol

My bichon is a soppy lady who is a total mummy's girl. She needs to keep me in sight at all times when I'm indoors, so much so that I've put a dog bed in the bathroom to stop her turning clean towels into a temporary bed while I'm bathing

I'm completely paranoid about my dogs' health, so both are well walked and are consequently very well muscled. So much so that the new vet in the practice told me my bichon was fat, judging by her recorded weight. When I showed her the dog she was extremely surprised...this lean, muscular 'lap dog' was certainly not fat!

Mine, Horatio, is a 5 year old Rottweiler/Shepard mix. He is the absolute love of my life and constant companion. He weighs 80 pounds and has a red coat.

He loves, loves, loves bubbles to chase and pop. He has his very own bubble machine and we go outside every day (weather permitting) for him to play with it. He is an indoor dog.

I've had him since he was a 4 week old puppy, that someone abandoned at Pet Smart. I take in pets waiting to be adopted, from Save A Life, and no matter what kind of animal I bring to the house, he is always welcoming. When I have bottle fed little ones he will lick and clean them and help stimulate them, so that they start using the bathroom.

He will of course die a virgin, as he was fixed very early on. I told him that he wouldn't miss something he had never had.

I had one dog, a pretty little shepherd/chow mix. When I was a child she was my closest friend, my confidant, my guardian, and my comfort. Losing her hurt me in a deep and enduring way. I've lost immediate family members and didn't so much as blink, but losing her was losing a part of myself.

I remember most how, no matter where my family moved us to, no matter how small the space, or unpleasant the circumstances, wherever I slept, she'd be as close as possible to me... I could reach down, and she'd be right there, and for a moment, it wouldn't be so bad.

I don't know if I'll ever have another dog. I'm afraid of that kind of loss, apparently. I hadn't realized until now.

Maybe I should see a shrink.

I love both cats and dogs. I once had a black lab that nursed my black kitten.  I haven't had dogs for years and now that I have the time to deal with a dog, I have a very nervy cat who would not tolerate that well. (The vet has actually suggested kitty prosac, I kid you not.)  The other cat wouldn't mind, he's a go with the flow type.

I like the big dogs with the sweet personalities: german sheperds, huskies, labs, golden retrievers (of course). I always crate train my dog from a pup, being one of those "an ill-trained dog is an abomination" types. Almost as bad as an ill trained slave.

yay for the cute dogs in the CM family! ^_^
i have a fascination with Westies; if something happens to my dear little fuzzbucket and i decide to get another dog, they're on my "seriously consider" list.
in my family, we've had norweigian elkhounds, dobermans, rottweilers, pitt bulls, german shepherds, corgis, labs, wolf hybrids, malamutes,  and all sorts of mixes in between.
my brother and i had two brother-n-sister dogs growing up, they were german shepherd/husky mixes. mine was black and white and suspicious of nearly everyone except me, and his was brown and black, and the most friendly, accommodating dog ever. they came from the pound.
sadly, my girlie was poisoned and had to be put down when she was 5. i was in high school at the time and got horrendously depressed over it. my brother's dog got so sad, he wouldn't eat and would sit in the corner where they used to sleep and whine constantly. it was awful.
we had my brother's dog until he was 12; he died after the car accident. he'd been steadily getting weaker due to old age, and i think it was too much stress for him. he was a mild-manner low-key guy who loved to shake hands and eat hot dogs. =p

my grandma had a GS/wolf hybrid dog -- she was an accident that happened during a rash of "escaped wildlife" incidents, and the lady who owned her mother got on open line (it was like craigslist but over the radio =p) and said "come get these puppies or i'm putting them all to sleep!!"
that dog was one of the best dogs we'd ever had. she had thicker ears than a regular dog, a denser, coarser coat, she was a different kind of critter, but she was friendly, super loyal, and had enough moxie for everyone. she never got the hang of walking on a leash, but that's the joy of having a multi-acre yard -- lots of room to roam.

I'll rarely pass up on an opportunity to talk about my four legged kids. I'll even make them at times to the dismay of my family and customers. Who gives a shit if I get the occasional strange look. :>

I have a female Black Field Lab named Zoe and a Scottish Terrie mix named Rambo.

They know Sit, Stay, Lay down, Give me a kiss, I'm gonna get your toy, Get your ball/toy. Do you wanna play(Which is of course one of their favorites) and Zoe knows..Do you want to fight as long as it's accompanied by a playful growl..which then she'll begin her "I'm a real scary Mother" act. She then grabs my pillows, sheets and whatever happens to be close to her and tosses it in the air. What a show of force she puts on. Oh and throw in mad, circling dashes in a wild tornado like spin and you have instant laughter.

Rambo tries to get in on the fun but all he manages to do is step on my toes and then sit on my feet when he gets tired. Bless his heart, he does try lol. He does like to play rolly polly. He's more of the quiet loving type. Just wants a little affection.

hahahaha ^_^ that sounds super cute!!
my dog knows "go get your toy," too -- that usually gets him pretty wound up. if you say "do you want to play?" he'll go rummage around and find a toy. =p
and he'll only eat a treat like a milk bone after you "fight" him with it =p  --  poking him with it and tossing it around and taking it away and giving it back and generally being playful with it. if you just give him one, he'll throw it down and look at you like "seriously? where's the fun in THIS?"

i love my dogs and had them most of my life. i've always had border collies and have two males at the mo, an old boy and a youngster. i also have a patterdale terrier (smooth coat) bitch. the young male dog is absolutely nuts. he thinks he can catch pigeons that fly over the garden and leaps to try and get them. he thinks that tweeting birds are personally insulting him and he also thinks he's a landscape gardener (read, you don't want that plant there so i'll pull it up and put it chewed up over here). also, given a stick to run round with and he's the happiest dog on earth. he's a stunning tri-colour and a very loving dog.

my old boy is another tri but kennel club bred rather than farm as i've always had before. he's much more brawn than brain that's for sure. however, that is not a bad thing as he's worth his weight and more in gold as a guard dog. very sadly i think this could well be his last year and i shall miss him greatly. he came to me as an unruley 1yr old dog who never really got on with men. but he is very shallow when it comes to my playmate, when he's here the dog is suddenly not mine anymore. he also misses said playmate when he goes home, i'm not sure if playmate realises just how privilegded he is lol

lastly i have my little bitch. she is the first break away from collies that i've had. it took two years to find her as she is a true smooth coat and not a broken/rough coat. i got her for ratting and she is excellent at her job. full of buzz she can go all day and is as quick as any big dog. a great player and at 7 she has just as much puppy playfullness as any younger dog.

I had the bestest husky in the whole world. Alas, he died young of lymphoma. I was never a dog person until we got him, but he won my heart. RIP

I like to teach my dogs how to spell: Would you like to go for a R I D E?

Is it time for your W A L K?

How about a T R E A T?

What a blast, geeze I miss having a dog.

I hate dogs.  I don't know how people can stomach having them with all the noise they make and disgusting habits they do.

Your topic clearly states, "Let's talk about dogs" and I am talking about dogs!  If you wanted this to be a massive petting spa you should of called it, "Let's adulate dogs!"

The beauty here is that you can train them out of most of that, with a little patience.
