"Also, since 60-90% of the population is seropositive for HSV-1..."

Right, but "seropositive" means exhibiting signs of seroconversion, and "seroconversion" means that you've been exposed to the virus but may not carry or transmit it.  It may simply mean you are immune tot he HSV-1 virus.  For example, my blood shows seroconversion to VZV which is the chicken pox virus.  I've never had it, but I've been exposed to it, and I will likely never be able to contract it.
Regardless - I must be in the 10% of people who don't have HSV-1, because I tested negative.  (Remember, HSV-1 is the virus which most often is the cause of cold sores on the lips.)

Taking you at your word, I would say condoms are unnecessary in your case.   I would still think condoms a good idea for the ease of cleaning after the fact, and because it's not impossible for you to get an urinary tract infection from anally penetrating her without a barrier.    M

Perhaps I should see if I can bring along a couple, if I can get some without lubrication or spermicide in them.  But I won't tell her I have them.  :p

Regular sex is a great way to both of you relaxed and connected. That way her body is relaxed and when you 'start' she won't tense up, thats what can make things painfull. Sounds like she is already relaxed with the idea, soon she will be like some of us, she will go into subspace, fun stuff.

Mmmm, sounds good... I don't think anything's gonna stop me from this, now.  That all sounds so good.  I really can't wait to be with her again...... she was whining for control on the phone tonight and it's driving me up the wall.  Arg!

I think that part is incorrect as regards Herpes because most people that have a noticeable dose of it get it from asymptomatic carriers. People that are seropositive for herpes are the asymptomatic carriers for the disease and do transmit it - asymptomatically. They shed the virus that has never caused them a problem at all.

"HSV-1, which usually infects the mouth and lips, is usually transmitted via kissing or through the exchange of premasticated food, as in the case of HSV-1 seropositive mothers pre-masticating food for their young children."
http://virus.stanford.edu/herpes/transmission.html

Herpes is one of those diseases that is perceived as an STD by hysteria-based standards that ignores all of the non-sexual ways that things like Herpes or HPV transmit from person to person. Sex is clearly not the only to get it or to pass it on. The presence of such illness in any person is simply proof of the illness in that person but not any kind of evidence of how they got it. I know that in the U.S. that the presence of such illness in children has been used as evidence of child abuse and so on when theoretically such illnesses can be passed on even via wet towels. The Stanford University quote above indicates feeding as a method of transmission. And I know that in many cultures kissing on the proximate area of the lips and cheeks is the standard form of greeting. I don't feel like looking it up now, but I think Janet Reno pursued several abuse cases as described in Florida.

But if you don't have it, then you don't have it and the question is moot for you. I just threw it out there because so many overlook this particular issue.

If you're a healthcare provider why do you need to ask a bunch of strangers  if condoms in the ass are needed. You should know that yourself.

Condoms are sometimes recomended because the easily torn anal tissues.

And for the person who suggested make it a last area stop. you're not supposed to go from vagina to ass with out a clean up either. Same reason your not supposed to go ass to vagina. Bacteria transfer from foreign bacteria not found can cause infection even if it was from vag to ass.

I would highly recommend using condoms for anal sex, at least the first and maybe subsequent times, simply because the latex makes entry SO much easier and a lot less painful.  Skin-to-skin contact, even with gobs of lube, still cause friction and drag, which causes the pain.  But I've found that when a condom is used, it just slides right in, no pain at all.

Later on, when she's used to you and stretched and relaxed, you can "graduate" to no condom.

Thanks everyone for all the ideas so far.  I'll definitely take everything into consideration!
