No "bones" on display from me Lucy...

Come on down, I will treat you well, and I am sure I would truly enjoy meeting you. For the most part we can all behave like ladies and gentlemen for a few days, and I have confidence that Treasure and Firm will make excellent moderators...

LV would be good for a lot of reasons.  Flights are relatively cheap.  We wouldn't have to stay at a strip hotel, and could get a pretty good deal for rooms, I think.  And there are loads of free things to do, that cost little or nothing.

Ok, here are some suggested locations:

1. Las Vegas (lots to do and see)
2. Near Washington DC  (lots to do and see - historical and political)
3. Atlanta (lots to do and see ... plus it's close to me!)
4. Nashville (near my old stomping grounds.  Country Music, Al Gore's home)
5. Kansas City, Missouri (Jazz, BBQ, central location)
6. Jacksonville, FL (on the ocean, near Orlando and Disney)
7. Cincinnati (home of Larry Flynt, Jerry Springer, lots of museums -  center of the east US)

Firm

I'm only on post # 35 so this might have been suggested already, but what about Chicago?

OK,

We'll still debate the location, but I did also like to debate the time frame.

I'd say .... at least 6 months from now, which gives us no earlier than January of 2012, and before the election, which will be early November.

If we do it in cold weather, the more southern locations are more likely (Jacksonville, Las Vegas, Atlanta).  During high summer, the most northern location under consideration is Cincinnati.

I'd suggest either spring or fall.

This would be then Feb/Mar/April or September, October.

If we do Vegas, I'd prefer the weekend of February  17, 18, and 19 (Friday through Sunday).

If we do DC, then early September?

Probably the least expensive areas will be KC and Nashville.  Nashville has a lot of southern charm and is reasonably priced.  I'm not sure about the cost of air travel to either one, though.

Considering the crowd, maybe we should leave plenty of room between the event and the election??

I thought about Chicago, and it almost made my initial list.  It's Obama's home, ya know ...

I'm willing to consider it, if there is enough support.

I'll eventually start a poll on the issue, but am just looking for feedback such as yours for the moment.

I naturally prefer Vegas, its so close I can make it there with six hours notice. Its highly affordable, I know the city, and I enjoy my time there every time I go.

That said, I am agreeable with any general consensus except if it is in the East somewhere winter driving could be treacherous for those of us of us coming from more Northern climes and who have to cross the continental divide, and summer would mean that those in school or who have kids in school would have a much easier time attending as well.

Hmm interesting.. I'd be tempted to attend.. We should meet in two different places, a gun shop or hunt supply store for the conservatives, and at the Whole Foods for the liberals! :-)

Hey, I love browsing hunt supply stores, especially the archery side!

I also like the paintball idea.

Anywhere with direct flights to Dayton or within 8 hours drive time of Dayton.

Well, we won't b able to please everyone, but the issue of school and kids are certainly valid issues.

Would Vegas in February work, though?

Is anyone strongly against Vegas?

I can shoot straight down to Vegas practically any day of the year, weather-wise. The roads may be a little bit dicey around Jackpot, Nevada between here and there but its nothing like trying to drive through Colorado, Wyoming or Utah in the winter.

Vegas in February would be just dandy

If we focus in on some dates I can check if I can wangle any deals in Vegas. If the room cost is cheap enough it could push others in that direction. Those Feb. dates arent Presidents day weekend are they?

If I recall correctly, the Stratosphere is usually fairly inexpensive.

as I told Firm.. I work at a hotel that has several brands, and I used to work at another (where I still have a good relationship with the regional mgr/former GM).. so once I am aware of dates/location, I can probably wrangle either a kick ass group rate, or at least SOME friends and family rates...
