pahunkboy -> So we are having a flood. (9/8/2011 6:41:03 AM)

I should be ok-  but i80 is closed and many places are taking on water.

My cousin- family- put all the furniture on the 2nd floor.   My uncle will have to do the same.    Crazy people driving in this- and roads are closed and or under water.

Thanks- LAT.

I wont have to shovel rain.      I seem to be good at picking out places to live that are not in the high risk area.

I am 2 hours north of you.   The river wont crest until Friday.  Some neighbors are evacuating which-  hmm-  the bridges are not open- jsut one and local traffic only.  The police have closed the river- and people been going past the yellow tape... to take pictures.   and hang out

Not to worry. Obama will be on his way, as soon as he gets off the 18th green.

We have quite a mess here.    I was hit- but not as bad as many.  5 of the neighbors evacuated.   Anyhow we can head toward business as usual now.     My cat was excited to plop into the basement.   Into a bunch of water.  I have never had to pump water here in the time I lived here... until today.

Thank you.  Thanks everyone.

I was on errands and the area is bouncing back.  It was scary last night-  as rumours of losing power and mandatory evac- and the wall breaking.    The flood wall did what it was supposed to do.  Cool.  Every 20 years we get a scare.....  it really is not an intense disaster area-  not in my immediate area.

A lot of nuts out yesterday drunk and setting off fire crackers.

My cousins place got hit...but that is the area she picked.

LaTigresse -> RE: So we are having a flood. (9/9/2011 1:33:35 PM)

I am just glad you are okay.

"A lot of nuts out yesterday drunk and setting off fire crackers. "

I remember when twisters came to this area, people were cheering in the streets as if they welcomed the excitement. I guess life is too dull.

"My cousins place got hit...but that is the area she picked. "

Always look at elevation when buying a property, it's kinda important. However you can only get so high (no pun intended) and in extreme conditions you can be underwater anyway. I don't know if you have a basement but right now I wish I didn't.

And I DID look at the lay of the land, the elevation here is not that high but it is near a damnear cliff, the runoff is great. However I have this century old tree in front that has destroyed my drain. Sans a sump pump I was down there with a wet/dry shop vac and took 75 gallons of water out of here. I am moving the machines out of here and selling this place I think. I am definitely moving the machines out because they CANNOT be in such a moist atmosphere. There is probably twenty grand worth of shit down there but try to sell it now. People with money have no desire to use tools.

My neighbor had a veritable gusher in his basement up to about six months ago, there was a water main leaking in the street and they fixed it. But that was clean water coming in on him. Yeah, that shade tree is worth it. Actually it is because for all the time I've lived here it would've cost alot more to air condition this place without it. So it's like ten grand now because I won't let anyone fell the tree. That means the main sewer line must be relocated. Even at less than fifty feet, it is expensive. So this will be sump pump city and limited usefulness of the basement until it is fixed.

Like I said I think I'll just sell the place, it has certaain good points that will bring in some bucks. With that maybe I can find something more suitable, like somewhere outside the Buckeye Curtain.

But the point is that no matter where you go there are problems. I'd just like to trade problems with someone now.
