Here's the Oakland story, from that bastion of neo-con thought, the LA Times

What a wonderful way to represent for the 99%...

300 arrested at Occupy protests in OaklandAfter clashing with police, demonstrators break into City Hall and burn a U.S. flag. Mayor Quan calls on the movement to "stop using Oakland as its playground."

"People in the community and people in the Occupy movement have to stop making excuses for this behavior," Quan said.

Protesters clashed with police throughout the day, at times throwing rocks, bottles and other objects at officers. Police responded by deploying smoke, tear gas and bean bag rounds, City Administrator Deanna Santanta said.

Interim Police Chief Howard Jordan said about 300 arrests were made.

"These demonstrators stated their intention was to provoke officers and engage in illegal activity and that's exactly what has occurred today," Santana said.

You'd be cool with this if it was teabagger punks disrupting a city hall meeting, then?

Damn Oakland storm troopers...gassing the poor helpless innocent flag burners in City Hall... next thing you know Oakland will be building those funny public showers with smoke stacks in the back for those arrested.

I watched events last night on two separate livestreams.  Did anyone else?  There is no confirmation that protesters attacked the police first.  I didn't see it, no video has come out, and multiple Occupy sources have denied it.  The only source at this point is the official police statement.  Meanwhile, it is incontrovertible that an officer sent a 100 lb unarmed woman to the hospital, missing teeth.  Also, it is video verified that officers were using batons to beat cameras out of the hands of citizens who were obeying all requirements.

One flag was burned, and this was clearly not a consensus decision.  Most of the protesters there were saying don't do it.

Please don't forget that the Oakland PD was placed under court monitoring four days ago because of its history of excessive force against protesters, and stands to lose a lot if they admit to any further excessive force.  At this point, their official statements are less believable than the LAPD's, and that is saying quite a bit.

I was wtching the ASG skills thingy and keeping an eye on my twitter feeds, for two hourrs the reports from twitter people tell a different story than the news..shock horror, a lot of people decrying the violence from their own, most disgusted with police action because it seemed to be unreasonable force.
However, proof? I have nothing, which is why im not adding any more than this.

May I come into your house and set a flag on fire... I mean it is my right of protest under the Constitution...ps... do you have an extra tent I can put up on your front yard... Oh yea... I'll be hacking into your power box it is a little chilly out…Now I will be peaceful about it unless you protest then I’ve a supply of bottles to throw…”POWER to THE 99 %

I know... The Right Wing Tradition is to get massively constipated then head off to Bohemian Grove for enemas in tents.... Which far more civilized and patriotic.

Lucy's house is private property. A city hall is not. That's a facile comparison, sweetie.

on the contrary most agencies here are "quasi-public" corporations.  Oh yeh baby!  Its a dirty fucking fuck the people world with law today, because they do not understand those "sneeky wabbit" concepts the asswipe gubafia pulled on them to convert the government to the abortion we have now!

I thought the T`s didn`t like getting lumped in together with the nuts in their party?

Well, since we`re lumping,[:D],when will we hear the T`s renounce their members who do this?

Armed insurrection and the threat of it(a tea-packer theme)don`t have many comparisons on the left.

When are the Ts gonna cut that shit out?

kdsub -> RE: Occupist punks storm city hall, burn flags (1/29/2012 11:47:03 AM)

If I were a citizen of Oakland... it would be as much of my house as the protestors...Remember all public property is just that...not just the protestors.

They are destroying my property as well as theirs...My rights trump theirs... Their rights trump mine... so that means a stand off...sooo...Protest but don't destroy my property...block my streets... close down my income...and stomp on my rights. Then I will not stomp on theirs.

Butch

PS... I was not talking about Lucy's house anyway

Moonhead -> RE: Occupist punks storm city hall, burn flags (1/29/2012 11:53:53 AM)

Redmagic's house is likely to be privately owned as well.

You'd better clarify your point: are you seriously saying that protesters have no right of access to public buildings?

Sure! In fact we're in Miami this weekend so you've got the whole back yard patio to yourself. In fact, there's a nice little burn alter we usually reserve for Cambridge virgins, but I'll bet will do just fine for flags.

"People in the community and people in the Occupy movement have to stop making excuses for this behavior," Quan said.

But it appears that the behavior of those within the underlying causal foundation are being excused daily. As long as WS and DC continue their rapacious dance on what is becoming the corpse of the middle class, the Occupy movement and the arms of TPTB shall increasingly become more militant.
