OedipusRexIt -> Block List (6/23/2006 9:49:28 AM)

I was looking at my altogether short "Block List" and a thought ocurred to me.

I wonder who's "Block List' I'm on?????

Wouldn't it be amusing to know?  After all, you can't contact them and say anything unkind about their choice, so what would the harm be?  Wouldn't it save time in the end, for everyone?

Just a random thought this morning.  If I'm on your list, feel free to tell me, assuming that's not a CM no-no.

(and thousands of posts followed that comment!)

IronBear -> RE: Block List (6/23/2006 9:52:42 AM)

I have two only people on mylist and that is probaly as big as it will get. I'm curious how many have blocked me but I'm not losing any sleep over that anyway.. Life goes on .......

LuckyAlbatross -> RE: Block List (6/23/2006 9:53:30 AM)

The "block" is one of the best used "social jab" features.

There's nothing more potent than someone publicly stating that they are "blocking you" as the final denouncer of exactly how erasable you are.  This, coupled with cyber friends laughing and cheering at the pronouncement, is the ultimate cyber impersonation of a troup of queen bees shoving a nerd into the lockers and walking straight on down the hall.

Course the hysterical part is that half the time it's known that the person does not ACTUALLY block the other person at all- the pronouncement is made SOLELY for the perceived social insult.

I've had it happen to me where someone will publicly let me know MULTIPLE times that they've blocked me.

IronBear -> RE: Block List (6/23/2006 10:00:58 AM)

I agree with you LA, but on a personal basis I'm more inclined as you know to invite some one i am arguing with to block me if they want.... That sort of takes the value of it like a punch, the one who gets in first has theupper hand or atleasttime to start a hasty retreat.... I only block for one reason. It is because a person has become so annoying and consistantly repeats the annoying habbit like eternally posting negatives (which is IMO attention seeking), or their replies usually have nothing to do with the subject in hand and are at est so inane that it is like a mosquito.. Whilst I'll defend their right to express their views and opinions, I just remove myself from having to read their posts. Sort of like I refuse to remain within earchot of "Everybody Loves Raymond" or the "Simsons". I just dont feel I should have to listen to programs let alone watch them when I cant stand them....

Well I wonder who that could be???  :)

meatcleaver -> RE: Block List (6/23/2006 10:08:07 AM)

I'm pretty sure I'm on one list, not that I find it much of an insult, more of a compliment to be blocked by the righteous.

I haven't blocked anyone and don't intend to.

Mercnbeth -> RE: Block List (6/23/2006 10:10:36 AM)

The day I find it necessary to put anyone on a "block list" I'll toss my PC in the Pacific. It would mean I've lost my handle on reality. Being "hurt" or not laughing off someone's posted words or email is as silly to consider as cyber masters and slaves.

But I too would love to know how many "blocks" I've achieved. It would be kinda like notches in a gun. As I pointed out to someone in a recent thread; if a response to something you post generates insults, or name calling instead of factual argumentative rebuttal, it means the responder has run out of facts and is running away. Blocking represents ultimate surrender.

Oh it happened in the AOL chatrooms also- paragons of maturity there.

Yeah but some people are just soooo fucking annoying.
I'm sure I'm one of those to some.  We all are.

PlayfulOne -> RE: Block List (6/23/2006 10:23:12 AM)

I just looked at the list on my profile,  I don't have anyone blocked, no one in my favorites,   I just must be too lazy to use any features, lol.   I did get a big surprise when I looked at the admirers list and found people there, where did they come from?

I "try" nt to let someone on the other end of the wires get under my skin enough for that,  the vast majority of the time I just laugh at me.

Vendaval -> RE: Block List (6/23/2006 10:34:10 AM)

I have several people on My block list for CM e-mail, have had
to do the same for other e-mail accounts and chat messenger systems.
Some sent form letters repeatedly, some sent vulgar propositions
and photos of their genitalia, some were angry at being politely rejected.
There are only a few people on the boards who I have had to block.
One was a guy who came into the Mistress thread and started spewing so much hatred and venom
that almost everyone in the thread blocked him.  Block is a handy feature for the trolls.

YMMV,

Great question!  I'd love to know who has blocked me!  Then again, I guess if I give it some thought I could probably ballpark it.

I've actually requested to be blocked once.  That was fun.  Hell, make them do it!  I wonder if that ever happened?

MistressSassy66 -> RE: Block List (6/23/2006 10:47:04 AM)

I dont block people usually.Most of the time I collect info and keep it on
file or cd.

I will make a note about that person.
Then I sort of have an on going file on them for any future problems.

And I can tell you that it came in very handy when I was threatened by someone upset over a NO I gave them.{ they tend to back off when you send them a copy of the things they have said....

I also tend to use back up cd's if there is someone that is really being an ass.

Now I'm not the vindictive type(okay maybe a little) but I do not like being threatened,sort of enrages Me and its anything goes at that point.

I agree that sometimes it is like a reward.  For the most part, I think it's funny, since I endeavor not to be rude to people, so their blocking reasons are usually a source of amusement, not anger.

Still, I've blocked a couple.  Sometimes it just makes sense.  I don't bother announcing it.

Thanks for getting that the point of the post was about being blocked, not blocking someone...  I tried to make it clear.

cuddleheart50 -> RE: Block List (6/23/2006 11:00:32 AM)

I don't know if anyone has ever blocked me or not, and if they have, then I shouldn't be talking to them anyway....I have only blocked one person.

NeedToUseYou -> RE: Block List (6/23/2006 11:49:07 AM)

Can everyone read this?

if so,

Ummmm, I don't block anyone, it seems to me blocking is just a way of deleting dissending voices, sorta defeats the purpose of being on a forum to me anyway. It would seem that if a poster said something on the level of being trully out of line the moderators would delete their profile or put the waiting approval thing on the account. To me anyway, people are way to sensitive.

Um, Rex? Just to point out that if you're on someone's block list, they can't read your post to know they should tell you that they've got you blocked. [8D] If it's on the other side, they might not be reading the forums at all.

I can't block you though. I enjoy reading your posts, so no notch in the belt buckle from me. [;)]

Oh my goodness that is an awful lot of work to go thru for the internet world! I am just way too lazy for that.
