ORIGINAL: BoscoX And the point about Islamic states routinely persecuting non-Muslims speaks to the repulsiveness of the Islamic cult itself, and its horrific belief system That, in no way, shape or form, has anything to do with how we should treat a religion. What they do in other countries is of no consequence here. If they try to do that stuff here, they should have the applicable consequences for breaking whatever law they broke. But, again, that goes for any religion. Yes. Exactly. It is encouraging to see a right winger taking a strong and principled stand against Bosco's looney right prejudice and alarmism. If this happened more often perhaps the Right could finally shed its historical association with bigotry. Don't forget the Left has a strong association with bigotry, too; from the KKK, to the policies that make things worse for minorities. It's not a Left or Right thing, though, and that trips up a shit ton of people. quote:
We should set, live by and believe in our own principles, values and standards. What happens in non-Western countries is of no relevance. Bosco is saying that we should let the worst fanatics and Islamists set the standard for how we behave. I for one absolutely refuse to go along with this amoral, unprincipled and ultimately self defeating strategy. Freedom of religious belief and practice is a long established value. There is no reason to compromise this whatsoever. There is no need to discriminate against Muslims or any other minority religious sect. It is abhorrent. As long as believers observe our laws, they should enjoy all the freedom we offer to believers in more established religions. This is a fundamental human right, and like all human rights it is completely non-negotiable. Agreed.
