I get to work when I want, where I want, with who I want.
It pays a hell of a lot better than my last job, and is paying my way though school easily
I met my best friend through this job

I can work from home, so no need to pay for daycare.
I get to travel to different places.
I can arrange my working hours so that they are convienant for me.
I can take time off whenever I need to.

Has a decent retirement plan ,  wages are good for the type of work/skills needed. lots of vacation time

negatives   ..hot dirty environment, physically demanding and the years working do take a toll physically most will retire will injuries ..though vacations are generous they are not flexible and we also are expected to use vacation hours as sick days so in reality  not that much better than the industry standards if you get stuck having to burn vacation time as sick days instead.  Job has to come before family  for example if you are scheduled to work on your childs graduation night  or an your aunt dies and funeral is during your shift ..you are getting the time off..your expected to be at work no if ands or buts..if you have to miss a day your expected to have a doctors note..most doctors won't give out unless you are absent for 3 days ..so  in order to get that note you will likely have to choose sitting at the emergency room of a hospital for 6 hours  just in order to have a note and you may have to pay a fee for the note ranging from $10 to $30 depending on the doctor that sees you.  ..because it is such a PITA you will likely just go into work sick and suffer it out

My job is to take care of Lumus, my Love. Best damned job on the planet! [:D]  I love every bit of it.... (so much, that I don't even see it as work...)

sunshinemiss -> RE: Positive Things About Your Job (7/27/2008 11:50:59 AM)

Hello everyone,
I love many things about my job, but thought I'd share a fun little anecdote.

It is midterms week and I put a question on the test "What are key words?"  (for listening to a conversation, taking notes, etc)... I ask this question EVERY DAY in class and they answer it every day "The improtant words"... and so one of the students asked during the exam..... "Teacher, key words - do you mean the important words in a sentence?"

And we all laughed and I said... well there you go folks, 2 free points thanks to "Jose".... lol

peace and passion,
sunshine

Throwing certain people in jail is quite rewarding.

Hummm the best thing about my job is it will end for good in less than 39 years and then  I can go work in a garden centre.

The positives of my new job have been stated before, during the past two weeks, but I'll say them again:

* the commute is 40 miles/day less than it was at my old job, so I get there in 15 minutes instead of an hour

* the people I work with are great, esp. the main atty since we have know each other since the 6th grade

* the pay is much, much better than my old job

* it is in the field that I love (law)

* the young lady who is helping me learn the ropes in the new office is a real sweetheart... instead of being aloof because she has been at this firm longer than me, she thinks it is really cool that I know all the attorneys who deal with our office because I did this work for 9 years before coming to this firm

* since starting here, I have been a much happier person and my family and Daddy like that I'm smiling again  [:)]

I work with great people and can't ask for a nicer more understanding boss. Work wise - I can figure out things that seem to stump others... but instead of being put down for it and others being threatened by me (like my last job) I am respected and gone to for help. Even if I don't luv my job, the people i work with really do make it a great enviroment and that makes all the difference.

jlf1961 -> RE: Positive Things About Your Job (7/27/2008 9:04:41 PM)

Lets see, the best things about my job....

I dont get paid in cash, but do get a lot of smiles from physically impaired and autistic children when I get them riding horses for the first time.

I have the self satisfaction when I prove to someone that a horse that "has to be put down," doesnt.  Simply by teaching them a different way to work with an animal.

The feeling of contentment when I manage to get enough materials and professionals to help get the home of an elderly person or single mother renovated so that there is no more chance for electrical fires, falling in plaster, or leaky roofs.

And in connection with the above, manage after 2 years to get a local supplier to donate more than warped studs and very cheap nails to do a project.  (try to build a plum wall when the studs are both twisted and has a crown that looks like a roman arch)

Uh, wait a minute, I did get paid, last week one of the habitat for humanity clients brought me a loaf of blueberry bread, and for my birthday a bunch of the kids at the rehab center gave me a new cane, covered with glitter and flowers.  But you know something about that cane, that was better than the two sets of samuri swords my sister and brother in law got me, and even my sister and brother in law agree.

Funny thing about a rude, cold, heartless, cynical son of a bitch like me, things like  kids, old people, impoverished single mothers, and animals,  they really bring out the selfishness in me.  I selfishly grab every one of those smiles and store them away.  For once, after all the money I have earned my entire life, feel like I am doing something that everyone should be doing.

The pay is lousy, at least on the physical level..... but I wouldnt trade it for a job that pays a billion a year.

That's wonderful, jlf!  What a great and positive impact on so many people your good works are doing.
