What words do you see while reading posts that people seem to always misspell? i don't mean typos, i mean consistent misspellings. Some i have noticed i will list below - i will give you the misspelling then the correct way to spell the word. Add to the list so we can eliminate these errors once and for all! [:D]

rediculous............ridiculous
feal.....................feel
obidient..............obedient

And the usage of dominate - it's an activity!!  You cannot be a dominate.  You are a dominant!

RobertCloud -> RE: Commonly Misspelled Words (5/10/2007 7:48:08 AM)

While we are at it why not include redundancies...

I cannot tell you how many times I have seen someone state they are looking for a female Domme.
Excuse me, but a Domme is female... putting the word female in front of it is redundant and just makes the person stating the comment appear to be lacking intelligence.

I realize that they are trying to weed out the people that are out there that do not understand that Domme means a FEMALE DOMINANT... but... is it not better to correct the ones emailing you and tell them how stupid they are than to reduce to their level of stupidity.

Greetings velvetears,

LOL I know I've been guilty of spelling errors myself, so I won't be a hypocrite and comment on that one [&o],  But aside from spelling..I've have notice a particular grammatical error used quiet frequently . The one I'm referring to is when they incorrectly use "than" instead of "then". For some reason, when I see this, it's like hearing fingernails scratching down a blackboard.

For example..

"If you prefer blonde hair than why is your hair brown?"
or vise-versa
"I prefer blonde hair rather then brown hair."

Have a great day,
ryssa

Oh how I do love to pick on the spelling and grammer fanatics....hey ryssa.  So how should I torment you today?....blatenaly pore speeling?.....maybe some ain'ts and y'alls thrown into the conversation?  Ooh ooh, I know....I can butcher some Shakespeare again.

drawntothedark -> RE: Commonly Misspelled Words (5/10/2007 9:55:40 AM)

I can't spell. I honestly can't. I do the best I can do. I often type so fast that words like would appear as 'woudl'. I do this about 1 in 3 posts.

ryssa -> RE: Commonly Misspelled Words (5/10/2007 9:57:38 AM)

Nah..

Now if you said, "I prefer blondes rather then redheads", well that might torment me a bit..lol

KatyLied -> RE: Commonly Misspelled Words (5/10/2007 9:58:51 AM)

roll when they meant role

just this week:
shear when they meant sheer

the thing that irks me, is when people can't discern the difference between:
their, there, they're

agirl -> RE: Commonly Misspelled Words (5/10/2007 10:12:17 AM)

ect.... etc.
would of...........would have
could care less........couldn't care less

I murder the English language myself sometimes but anyhow, those are three quite common things I read here.

That is more of a word usage problem than a spelling problem

My nominations for commonly misspelled words

It is "truly" not truely

Also "definitely" not definately

AquaticSub -> RE: Commonly Misspelled Words (5/10/2007 11:46:53 AM)

I can't remember those apart for the life of me. I tend to always use "then". Sometimes Valyraen looks over my shoulder and corrects me. [&:]

darchChylde -> RE: Commonly Misspelled Words (5/10/2007 11:50:47 AM)

not sure about misspelled, but i know some often misused words are:

Master
Dominant
Mistress
submissive
slave

astarri -> RE: Commonly Misspelled Words (5/10/2007 11:51:43 AM)

masterbate instead of masturbate

and yes should of drives me crazy .... past tense ..should have

but yes i do admit to having terrible errors at times myself

LaTigresse -> RE: Commonly Misspelled Words (5/10/2007 11:53:51 AM)

Occasional bad spelling in posts usually does not bother me except, when it is in the topic. I don't know why, but that just bugs the shit out of me........Just saw one recently and I had to avoid the whole thread because of it. I don't know why but it really makes the person look stooooooooopid.[:D]

(Yes, I am aware it is supposed to be "stupid".)

I am weird.

I would say that but in fact, "I prefer redheads rather then blondes"...If I'm going to torment you through grammer I at least need to have the actual facts straight.

Than = comparison:  This rather than that.
Then = time:   Then we went to the store.

till...until or 'til

Greetings Domina8tingUrDrmz,

Yes, "then" refers to time but it also means ...for that reason; as a consequence or in that case.

Well wishes,
ryssa
