Some people have major personality changes occur with illness, especially chronic ones. Someone who is constantly in pain can become very hateful, envious of other people not in their situation and seek to hurt the people close to them who are not ill. I would not stay if my partner became verbally or physically abusive as a result of either the illness or medication given to treat it.
With that caveat, then I would stay. However I would not be able to nurse him full time and would insist on him allowing hired LPNs to assist. If he insisted that I nurse him around the clock and destroy my own health, both physical and mental, I would withdraw consent. I might not end the relationship but I would not submit to something that is unhealthy for me.
