myself, i'm 31 *shudder*, was introduced into the lifestyle at 21 quite by accident and started out as mainly a play bottom on stage, after leaving atlanta i eventually ended up in san francisco where i regularly visited a public dungeon for a few years until i had a very bad experience with a "Domme".  After this experience, i stayed far from anything involving the lifestyle for several years (except for some reading).  Last year i went to a local social and met someone who eventually became my Dominant.

so, while i could say i've been in the lifestyle for 10 years (which is not completely untrue); i was actually only active for about five... and as far as having anything near a real clue about what being a submissive is about, then i would be force to admit i only have about 9 months worth of experience

i've had lots of scene play, and i have lots of knowledge; but as for really knowing anything... there's just not any substitute for giving another control

I'm not sure how many "years" of experience I can claim....as I said...I've always been dominate....so could I consider myself to have 27 years of experience?  I entered my first D/s relationship at 18, I was neither a novice to relationships or sex at that point. 

However, as a Domme when I choose to include other Dommes (and occassionally their subs) into my play I prefer those with experience....usually those with experience that I have personally witnessed and/or that I admire and even then I pay particular attention to my sub to verify his safety at all times.  While years doesn't necessary mean practical experience, they can be an indicator that you are looking in the right place and are definitely a starting point.

How DO you add it up? What is considered experience? Its kinda fuzzy IMO, I mean I was reading BDSM stuff from age 12 on but I was a virgin still. 99% of my sex life has revolved around a D/s dynamic including doms that did not know about D/s (yanno, the natural untrained kind lol) There have been droughts (that sounds nicer than sayin I went w/o sex hehehe) in my life but I was still me/submissive inside. Oy.
I don't think there is a way to definitely say any length of time unless someone knows how to do that!
Can someone tell me:
HOW LONG HAVE I BEEN KINKY?

But seriously....I was actively involved in the BDSM community from an age that was, er, completely inappropriate for me to be involved.   It would be perfectly truthful for me to claim a suspicious number of years of experience in the scene.  But I don't bother doing so since I have nothing to prove to anyone, and I'm here primarily to make friends and be sociable.  You don't do that by bragging on how many years you've been whacking  people's butts.  Like it matters.  It's entirely possible to have been doing it poorly for your entire life, which wouldn't be much to admire.  [:D]

When you really think about it, no two people are the same really,. so who is to say who is "regular" and what a "lifestyle" really is? I think that I am "regular" and 99.9% of the rest of the population are freaks. That being said...

Personally I think the whole claim of "in the lifestyle" is a generic load of crap, and "Years of experience" mean didly-squat.  Perhaps this is only my unique viewpoint but this is just simply the way I am and have always been for as long as I can remember. Posting some number or claim would feel like I was trying to apply for some job or corporate position that needs certain qualifications to "prove" to someone that I know what I am doing. I don't feel the need to "prove" anything to anyone.  I am sure there are many people who have been "in the lifestyle" (hate using that term) for many years that still don't have a damn clue. 

Bottom line,. I don't give a turd what anyone "claims". Talk is cheap.
