thornhappy -> Anyone going to BAYCON? (5/11/2007 8:18:53 PM)

Greetings folks--

Nope, it's not a fetish event.  It's the Bay Area Science Fiction Convention (San Mateo, CA) over Memorial Day weekend.  But I seem to remember a small BDSM contingent there (not unusual at the cons I've been to).

So, anyone else going?

Did it move to San Mateo? It was always in San Jose when I attended.

Are the Leather Tea Parties still going on there?  I recall them fondly.

Bay Con is a great experience!
I heard from a friend that the hotel in San Jose refused to let them come back again.
Do you know anything about that?
I plan on attending next year, this month is too full of other obligations.

Have a fabulous time thornhappy!

Thanks Vendeval....
I haven't heard why the hotel turned them down, may get some info at the con.

One of the funniest Baycons I attended was when a very large group of Evangelical/Fundamentalist Christian teens was booked with a 2 day overlap of Baycon.  Several of us incorporated The League of Bloodthirsty Women on the spot.  We had a secret handshake and buttons to wear.  There was also a Men's Auxiliary.

The Christians were such a hassle to the hotel that the hotel said they'd never get booked in there again.  People were hassled in the bar, guests were getting random calls in the wee hours asking "if they knew Jesus Christ", and the Christians kept trying to crash Baycon parties.  (One of my friends worked security for the con, and had to deal with the problems.)

Ah, the days of yore.....
