Ok... silly thoughts that can cause arguement and dissent.  Which way IS the correct way for the toilet paper to face?

I was reading the thread on "Slave's Duties" and thought this topic needed its own thread.

Observation:  If you have four footed felines in the house, you are better off putting the toilet paper so the end comes out the bottom.  Then, when the cat bats at the roll, it doesn't unroll the whole bloody thing onto the floor and get shredded in kitty play.

Its suppose to go OVER the top. Every ettiquette book I have ever read says that. Its not only an appearance thing, its a practical thing, besides, who wants to use TP that was touching a wall {when was the last time THAT wall was cleaned}?! Yuck.

As for the cats thing, Simple trick, a big rubber band that fits snuggly over the roll and that can be moved to one side or the other so it still is in the proper direction and the cats can't get to it. This trick works well with toddles as well.

From what I understand it is over the top so the design can be displayed correctly.  However, I think that practicality should also play a part in here.  If there is a risk of kitty messes that can be prevented by placing the TP under then I would think that would be the best way.  I'd rather have an upside down pattern with a guest in my home then have that person come into the bathroom with a pile of shredded TP at their feet.

For me, I have never cared.  I am much more concerned with whether or not there is actually TP there...in adequate amounts...than what side it unrolls on.

Paper goes over the top.  Keep the bathroom door closed to keep the cats out.  Or train them.  A nice full water pistol and some patience should do the trick. Then again, keeping the door closed may be easier.  I had roommates who had to do this with dogs before.

Depends on your priority though.  Do what is most convenient.  It's your home, after all.

If all else fails with the cats, there's always a good old fashioned, Texas BBQ :P

slaverosebeauty -> RE: Toilet Paper (5/13/2007 10:12:36 AM)

Or you can always put the TP in an empty tissue box so it comes out the top. I have done that before, the cats can bat the box around all they want and the TP doesn't get shred to pieces.

I think it should go over the top. If the kitties want to play with it, all the better.

Much thx to the OP for this idea. my Daddy and i have three cats but only one of them sees the TP as her personal toy. i was always a top over TP girl but since moving in with my Daddy we just tend to leave the roll off of the wall thing...It usually sits on a hook over the door or on the sink top.

This may actually help us, and neither of us is that anal to make sure it is top over (okay, well i USED to be, but have since adjusted.)

Thx again and hope it works out. :)

Domspaintoy -> RE: Toilet Paper (5/13/2007 10:24:52 AM)

i almost choked on my coffee. i think ive read it 'all' now, doesnt matter which way its 'facing' does it? its all going to the same place! [;)] also unless its on a free-standing post/pole it touches the wall whichever way you put it.

Plus the 4 legged or even 3 legged (might have lost a leg for those of you who may think there is a breed of 3 legged cats) of the feline persuasion shouldnt be using the toilet or be in the toilet lol only the 2 legged pussy can do that *giggle*

Gotta say this really made me grin, thanks to the OP. [:D]

Actually, I put it coming off the top because of the kitties. It's easier to not leave it dangling at all that way.

Ahem!
We don't have to worry about kitties.  I have a cat but she doesn't have access.  We do not have central air and use a box fan.  This in turn blows the toilet roll and it unwinds because it is always coming from the top.
Solution:  Stretch a rubber band across the front of the roll so it doesn't do it.
True, it can be a pain to remove, but easier to remove than wind the roll back up or throw it away.

So, I'm to make extra work for myself so the TP can be displayed correctly.  And if it's shoved into a tissue box it's not displyed correctly anyway.  Screw it, I say let the TP dangle from the back.  Then again I usually don't even bother to put it on the roll in the first place.

I'm a little confused with this topic, over under with toilet paper.  My toilet paper comes out in sheets...and thank goodness the new phone book is here.

HydroMaster -> RE: Toilet Paper (5/13/2007 12:46:00 PM)

Geez, you might as well use sand paper lol.  I used cottonelle with aloe....my bum is spoiled

SunNMoon -> RE: Toilet Paper (5/13/2007 3:36:08 PM)

hehe I've had a small fight over this. I believe the toilet paper goes over the top. I even flip it if I see it overwise... I have issues. [8|]

LadyDominaX -> RE: Toilet Paper (5/19/2007 11:44:13 PM)

The "correct" way is over the top.  (I should have been a drag queen; I love it when things are over the top...)
The safe way in a  house where the bathroom door can be opened by the cats and they love to make confetti, is to put it so it pulls from the bottom.

It's touching the wall either way, unless your holder sticks out a good four inches from the wall.  At any rate as soon as you flush, the spray from the toilet covers a three foot range around the toilet, so the TP is going to be in range of that in most homes.

Also, if kitty happens to chew off and eat that rubber band, there will be a very expensive trip the the vet ahead.  Besides, a rubber band snug enough to keep the TP in check will rip it up worse than the cat would when you try to remove it, unless you use that sandpaper-style bargain stuff.
