NavyDDG54 -> WARNING!! Vicous new ID theft scam (5/14/2007 12:50:07 AM)

This has been verified by the FBI (Their link is also included below). Please pass this on to everyone in your email address book. It is spreading fast so be prepared should you get this call. Most of us take those summons for jury duty seriously, but enough people skip out on their civic duty, that a new and ominous kind of scam has surfaced. The caller claims to be a jury coordinator. If you protest that you never received a summons for jury duty, the scammer asks you for your Social Security number and date of birth so he or she can verify the information and cancel the arrest warrant. Give out any of this information and bingo, your identity just got stolen. The scam has been reported so far in 11 states, including Oklahoma. This (scam) is particularly insidious because they use intimidation over the phone to try to bully people into giving information by pretending they're with the court system. The FBI and the federal court system have e issued nationwide alerts on their web sites, warning consumers about the fraud.

Whenever you are asked for any information, simply LIE.

A great trick is to just transpose digits. Give the number as 1464 instead of 1646. Then if it's IMPORTANT ( i.e.: Perjury ) then you just go "oops", someone got it wrong.

Or, and appropriate answer remains, "Fuck Off Fascist Pig".

We're a big fan of this at the office: "Our internal Security Policy prevents me from releasing ANY details regarding our operations. This is the only statement I am permitted to make under our policy."

It's just as simple to have a policy of never giving out information unless you have initiated the communication. If it's something that sounds valid that you have to follow up, look up the phone number of the supposed agency the people represent in the phone book and call them yourself (after getting the agency's name and hanging up on the original caller). Also, official business is always conducted by mail; NOT email and NOT telephone.

I prefer "Fuck Off Fascist Pig", myself. Or lying... But whatever works...

lol - nice scam - credit to the scammers. (even evil genius is still genius) that doesn't mean i condone it tho. i'm sure every reader appreciates you posting this (as do i)

as for the bullying over the phone by the scammer - that's no different than the fbi itself. it may surprise you to know that you don't have to give them any of your personal information - at least constitutionally speaking, until you are charged with a crime or a judge grants a legal warrant. everything else is of your on volition. including federal taxes (yes, personal federal tax is not only optional, it's illegal to enforce). they've been trying unsuccessfully, since 1917 to over turn your supreme court's ruling on that.

yes i'm well aware that there are people even mobsters who have been arrested for tax evasion and tax fraud. all that proves is that the irs is an illegal terror group. read ammendments 5 and 16 of your constitution if you don't believe me.

then again - thanks to patriot act 1, victory act 1, and p2 and v2 (soon to pass if left unchallenged) even talking about this can make you have your citisenship stripped.

why do i follow american politics more than my own? cause canada has 33million people and our government is afraid of it's people (as they should be) so as long as they keep it to money scandals and poor spending habits they won't get a revolution. but if the terrorists assume control of the usa (and if you think i'm talking about arabs - you're an idiot... pack up your computer and send it back, you're too stupid to own one) canada is screwed too, the next day... if we went one on one with your military... and killed one for one... we'd run out of men, women and children before you ran out of "new recruits".

my point. beware of bigger scams as well [>:]

The first thing I do is tell them I am on a cell phone, and reception is generally
bad in the harbor, and to call me back if we get disconnected.

Then I point out that I never give out personal information over my cell phone.

I simply ask them to email me a document.

If they refuse, I ask to speak to their supervisor.

If I get the supervisor on the phone, I ask for their contact information.

The last guy who tried to bully me on the phone got my response:  "You have made
the same comment three times.  Now, I have no problem with you verbally assaulting
me on the phone, if that is what your company promotes as a standard policy, but I am
more interested in fixing the problem."

Dead silence on the other end.  The person realized that all calls are recorded for quality
purposes, and he was the one who sounded like an abusive jackass.

Then my cell phone, for some odd reason, loses connection and I let any further
calls go to voice mail.

i can see alot of people BELEIVING this.  a few weeks back the courts rounded up jurers at a walmart, you were handed a paper. 25 folks.  2 were mad. one was even cited for contempt. tho she had a valid excuse.

incidently if you need a court jury in these parts- your going downnnnnnnnnnn. period.
