Labels are important - we have these threads all the time. But they are pointless if we use only our own definition, and end up being only words that try and make one section of society more superior than the other. I love words - I argue words. So many people do - the threads are full of it. I found out more today how far words do evolve, being such a 'biblioslut' I am. Cretin - used in such a way to cause offense in usual language, meaning someone who is not quite on the ball. Who does something in opposite to what is wanted by another. Yet it could not be further from the truth. Cretin in it's original form, was meant to be a word that was associated with gentle and beautiful people - those who have no hatred or malice towards another. This was due to cretinism - that is due to thyroid aplasia - which resulted in dwarfism, large facial swellings and marked deaf and muteness. These were quiet people, usually of scandinavian heritage, who kept to themselves and bothered no one. Idiot was meant to be the lowest section of educated society. Yet it its original meaning is a person who simply does not comply or participate in democratic society. Now it is used to describe a person who does - now which is the most idiotic? I am just having a slow and boring day. Just a complete off topic post with no particular agenda... Peace and Rapture
