It took Rush and Hanity and the rest of them many years to develop radio programs that make money.

Does it REALLY make money if it needs to have it's airtime subsidized by the broadcaster, as Editorial Content, rather than needing to BUY the airtime, like Commercial Programming?

I think that's the real fear of these people. That they will, when it comes time, not really be profitable.

You endorse government review and approval of all information going out via any "regulated" electronic media to insure "equal access" to all political viewpoints.

Incorrect.
Then tell me what it is. Would a simple, editorial disclaimer at the beginning and end of each show satisfy you?

Ok, here's that misconception again. For COMMERCIAL CONTENT, e.g. Limbaugh, etc., all you need to do is make clear that this is a COMMERCIAL PROGRAM and does not necessarily represent the opinion of the licensee.

For EDITORIAL COMMENT it simply means making the system accessable to opposing viewpoints. As before, that is no guarantee of getting on the air, and if anyone believes it isn't working right, their redress is a complaint to the FCC.

Any why no response to any of the other points? They are logical positions derived from your previous "privilege", "licensed" stance.

Your initial premise was incorrect, and therefore anything following from those incorrect beginnings isn't relevant.

General reply -

Two links to the FCC for information relevant to this discussion -

I have to get working on a final project, so do not have time for research and replying until later this week.

Corporations could not care less about which side of the political fence their viewers/listeners reside. They care about only the bottom line. If anyone listened to Air America it would still be on the air nationally. If more people preferred CNN to FOX more people would be watching it. People ultimately control the media in the current environment based upon sponcers paying to have their advertisement viewed by the largest number of people possible. Subject PBS to the same criteria and there would be a void to be filled by any new program you wish. Like Air America, if the programming isn't desired it won't be watched. Would you make a law mandating people have to?

What national broadcasting corporation is "right wing"? Fox? The home of "Married With Children", the "Simpsons", and the never to be forgotten "Who's My Daddy?" programming? Would the late great Mr. Falwell sanction those programs? Don't care for their news channel? Well, don't watch it. Because the Fox news rating is higher than CNN it's a "bad" thing?

More important to me is the question as to why this is a priority for this Congress? Why does that ability to chose and decide a preference by viewership/listener-ship pose a problem of National concern? Is a person's viewing habits ahead of all the other issues and problems they said they would address handled to the satisfaction of the voters who put them in power? Or are the party/people in power so insecure and unconfident in the popularity of their positions that they want to limit what everyone can hear, or as the case may be, chose NOT to hear.

Corporations do care what people watch or listen to because they pay large sums through advertising and are concerned with what their products are associated with should there be an adverse reaction to something broadcast. The media corporations want to attract advertising which is why we get the common denominator effect to attract as many people as possible. The combination of both creates the idiot box. Most people get their info off the broadcast media which might explain why so many Americans still appear to think Saddam had something to do with 9/11.

The health of a democracy should be the concern of legislature, especially if no one else appears to care and especially if it is feeding wrong information that feeds support for unnecessary wars. Supporting an independent serious channel with balanced views does not censor other channels or compete seriously for corporate money but it does help balance the information being fed into society.

I have heard Air America and its wasn't leftwing at all but centrist.
