I'd like to think that if someone is in college then they have enough brains to realize that anything they buy with a credit card has to be paid.  I got my first card on campus.

i find that really hard to believe as well. It's a pretty damned simple concept.

i'm amazed that people can live without credit cards... must be a real pain in the ass to travel, with hotels and car rental places pretty much requiring them. Since gas prices have gone so high that all the stations are mandating pre-paying for fuel, i won't even stop someplace if i can't pay at the pump (plus one of my cards gives me a 5% discount on gas... it adds up!)

Major credit cards are also an important tool for building a good credit rating...and without a good credit rating, you can't get loans, you'll pay more for car insurance in some states, you can even get turned down for jobs nowadays.
