What would you say to someone if they were to ask you why you want to 'renact' dominece and subminsion. Their take being that they believe d/s is what is currupting the world. (For instance politics, bush imposing things on other countries. I cant explain why I enjoy d/s so much, can anyone help me to articulate it?!

EmeraldSlave2 -> RE: What to say (5/13/2005 7:34:28 AM)

This is about my personal fulfillment and relationships. It's rather arrogant, even for me, to consider that those things would corrupt the entire world.

This is who I am, it makes me happy, and it's just another type of relationship, for better or worse.

Making it any bigger than that IMO is just false.

ruffnecksbabygir -> RE: What to say (5/13/2005 11:22:53 AM)

First of all, i suggest you get a better understanding of the lifestyle yourself before trying to explain it to vanilla folk....i know you are just starting to explore D/s.
Don't try so hard to make others "get it" because, IMO, this lifestyle is definately not for everyone and most people either "get it" or they simply don't...and probably never will.

To compare D/s lifestyle to Bush and world issues is simply ridiculous...but if we shall go that route i'd say that's exactly what's lacking in the world today, you see, in many D/s relationships the persons involved know what their place is, there is no competition as to who is topping who, not all but many, feel as if they are being true to their nature, to who they really are, they are living outside of the "norm" and fulfilling their desires, wants, needs, etc...so, with all that said, i personally don't believe D/s is what is wrong with the world today. : )

i have only one friend outside of the lifestyle which i speak openly about it to...other than that, i don't even bother.....my friend isn't in the lifestyle but she has an open mind and has been my friend since i can remember, so she's the kind of friend that would help me hide the body & not ask any questions type lol.
But i don't bother with others because i don't want to worry them and i don't want to confuse them, and quite frankly it doesn't affect them and it's just none of their business.

I think I'd say I respect you for having your own opinion's however please respect me for having my own.
This country was built on a D/s aspect. D/s is nothing more than a power exchange. You do this and I do that...we live in harmony. I get what I want and you get what you want.

As far as Bush is considered...one worm can ruin a whole apple. Just because some people abuse their power, that doesn't make it a D/s aspect.
That is more along the lines of an abuser.

For me D/s is who I am. I see it within everyone around me. The only difference I see between myself and my vanilla cohorts is I am a bit more enlightened and realize that there is a power exchange. So I embrace it more so than other's. My dom reaps more benefits than the normal vanilla person.

D/s balances me out. I am in charge while at work. At home he is in charge. I rarely if ever lose my temper....basically I'm always on an even keel. I handle stress better than most.
So, to actually label what I like about D/s it is rather hard to do. People are all the time asking me what a normal day is for me. I have a hard time with that because I have lived my life a certain way for so long. Life is just normal to me. Yet, to other's it may be a bit bizarre.
Does that make sense?

Raphael -> RE: What to say (5/13/2005 12:05:15 PM)

I'm not sure what 'renact' means.

But as to the relationship between D/s inside the family, and political D/s in the world at large, I think the correlation is inverse.

Exploring and expressing the dynamics of dominance and submission in your private life gives you a safe and consensual way to satisfy those urges.

When people are forbidden and inhibited from expressing these feelings in their personal lives, they can then be sublimated into support for a political domination movement much more easily.

MrKite -> RE: What to say (5/13/2005 12:18:46 PM)

I’d say everybody in the world is in some kind of relationship in which they take either a dominant or submissive role. You have a boss; he/she is in the dominant position. You have children; you are in the Dominant position. World leaders are in dominant roles. The poor are in submissive roles. Police are in dominant roles. NBA and NFL teams are constantly switching roles as dominant or submissive. All animals in herds, flocks, packs, schools or what ever have a position as more or less dominant to each other. Wherever there are two or more people interacting, there is some degree of dominance and submission within that dynamic. The only difference between us in this lifestyle and all the rest of the world, is that we are consciously aware of our roles and what we do within those roles

EmeraldSlave2 -> RE: What to say (5/13/2005 2:36:44 PM)

Actually I think there's more to it than that. There's a difference between a relationship where the authority dynamic is the BASIS of that relationship and a relationship where the authority dynamic is a side effect of the relationship. In order to be a good teacher, the teacher must maintain some sense of authority. I don't need a partner to maintain authority or for me to maintain authority in order for us to work well together.

PenelopePitstop -> RE: What to say (5/15/2005 10:09:33 AM)

It's diferrent for everyone. I am submissive and I have come to the conclusion it's to do with a very intense need to be desired, that and laziness lol.

To attempt to explain this is to me, like being asked why you are gay or straight.

I would tell them that they have an overly simplistic vision of the world and then assess whether or not they are worthy of engaging in a debate with me ;)

In all sincerity, domination and submission are polarities, like good and evil, black and white, yin and yang, north and south, east and west, up and down, rich and poor... you are getting the point, right?

Everything exists in the middle of the polarities. For example, you are in Massachusetts, right? While Emerald is in Maryland. So you are North and she is South. But to me, you aren't North, you are South. Because I am North of you in Québec. So Emerald and I can argue for hours about whether you are North or South but it doesn't make a difference because we are both wrong and we are both right because it is all a question of perspective.

So if people want to think that dominance and submission is corrupting the world, then let them. That is their very narrow perspective of the world and they cannot look at the whole picture and see the multiplicities of power dynamics being engaged.

Nicely said, Lady Angelika :)

I personally think material and spiritual greed is what corrupts the world but that's a subject for another post. Oh and people who are unable to see the world in any other way than their own.

Thank you.

Again, an imbalance. All imbalance will cause corruption and ultimately lead to destruction, whether it be eco-systems or economic systems.

They need they need the point of view gun which instantly imparts one’s point of view to whomever it is pointed! Sorry, couldn't resist the reference to The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - great film, greater book!
