Status: offline 		Both Medicare and Medicaid are combined state and federal programs, so the rules for eligibility would vary from state to state within certain parameters.  There is one instance i'm aware of:  "Welfare to Work" programs under which Medicaid was extended for a time after the adult began working.
 
In certain catastrophic situations, such as a need for long-term nursing home admittance, when all assets have been utilized, Medicaid offers coverage, but i'm not sure of all the particulars.
 
In general, the working poor have to seek out and utilise whatever local or private resources are available to them, such as the Partnership for Prescription Assistance.
 
i feel pretty confident that no federal or state program exists to assure that P/pl don't fall too far from the poverty limit and become homeless, etc.

Status: offline 		Helping folks with these matters is what i do for a living.

Medicare eligibility is fairly simple and straightforward.  You must be age 65 or older OR have received SSDI (social security disability income) for 24 months.  Period.  It doesn't matter if you work or don't work.  People who are over 65 and still working may opt out of Medicare Part B (outpatient/doctor service) if they are covered by employer health plans, because there is a premium of $93.50 per month for Part B plus and annual deductible of $131. Opting out during employment will not effect eligibility later.  Medicare Part A (inpatient hospital services) is an entitlement for persons 65+ or qualifying disabled persons, so there is no premium but there is a $935 deductible for each hospitalization.  Medicare Part D (prescription insurance) is a Medicare program administered through private insurance companies and the premium varies from $0 to $35 per month.  People whose income is 135% of Federal Poverty guidelines or less will receieve a partial to full subsidy on any Part D premiums depending on income and resources (money in the bank, CD/s IRA etc) 

Medical is a state program which receieve Federal funding but rules are set by the state of California.  Typically Medicaid programs are offered by income level and resources and varies from state to state.  Typically anyone working full time would have a difficult time qualifying for Medicaid but not impossible. 

CMS.gov  (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) can tell you more about how to qualify.

Status: offline 		Additionally, there is at least one other instance when one might become eligible for Medicare, but not one I would recommend and that is any US citizen/national or legal resident with significant enough work history who is diagnosed with End-Stage Renal Disease can become eligible for Medicare in the third month following diagnosis, regardless of whether they continue working.

As for Medicaid programs, it's doubtful that anyone working full time on the books would meet state requirements for income eligibility, no, not impossible, but highly unlikely. However, some people who work part time might become eligible. You might want to investigate whether your state has any "spend-down" programs that might allow for becoming eligible after spending down a certain amount of income on a month-by-month basis. But the other consideration with Medicaid is savings and property ownership and marital status. Because regardless of one's own personal income, if one's legal spouse is also earning an income, that is counted as total household income. Any savings, investments income etc is counted and though most states allow ownership of primary property, secondary properties would render one ineligible and, at least here in NYS, the state can put a lien on a primary residence.

Status: offline 		Yes, you can draw medicaide/medicare and still work. Here in Georgia...if your drawing medicaid/medicare, your allowed to work 20 hours a week and I believe there is a $2500 limit. It may vary in different states though.

You can always call your local government office and ask.

Status: offline 		Yes you can. I have medi-cal when my caseworkers actually RETURN my calls. Its based on need and on how much you earn. No time limit for how long you can be on medi-cal.

Status: offline 		sure.  how much, if any, share of cost you might have would depend on the guidelines of the state program you are applying for.

James works very hard, I am not sure how many hours a week, He will be elligable for health care under his job, but not untill he reaches salleried pay, He's a driver at Mary's pizza, and he gets wage plus tips, But in the mean time, he needs health coverage. I suggested  months ago  when he wasn't working a full time job, just being a paid nanny * infrequently paid may I add*for his brother,medicare, but he didn't wish to, and now he thinks he wouldn't be elligable cause he works now.

He does have a medical history of chronic depression, one time resulting in a mental break down, And was on seratonin uptake inhibitors to control the depression, But when he lost his first job before this one, due to a break down he lost his coverage. He needs the health coverage.
