Masque66 -> Not pretty enough? (5/22/2007 12:35:39 AM)

Just something that bothered me.  I was reading a profile where the sub had written, "Let's play in our own leagues, shall we?" Implying that far too many unattractive people had messaged her.  Now I may not be a perfect 10, but I'm at least reasonably attractive, but what killed me was that looking at her photo, neither was she.  Now, I can understand not wanting to be with someone you're not attracted to.  But if Ron Jeremy and Hugh Heifner have taught me anything, it's that looks aren't everything.  I've seen plenty of girls I thought 'out of my league' holding hands and making out with men who looked so astoundingly ordinary.  And just a further note, you don't get to play in that league forever.

Ok so this wasn't really a discussion, I just can't stand hubris.

Oh!  I ever know who you're talking about!  She's at the top of my list when I got to CollarMe.com, as our ASL's are nearly the same (minus the gender thing) and she's of my perferred D/s stance-type in a partner.

She's not that bad.  I'd go with a high 7.

I can respect her point well enough.  Physical attraction matters a good bit to her, or at least enough to make that note in the start of her profile.  I don't think she's necessarily saying she's as hot as possible, but she's saying she's fairly up there and doesn't care for those too far below her on that spectrum.  She probably wouldn't expect a 10 male to pay attention to her, either.

Personally, I don't care that much about the physical appearance thing compared to some others.  Some people think it's the end-all factor.  Whatever works for someone, you know?

SirKenin -> RE: Not pretty enough? (5/22/2007 2:18:17 AM)

Maybe her league is 20,000 leagues under the sea?

SanDieganMichael -> RE: Not pretty enough? (5/22/2007 2:42:22 AM)

Although I must say physical beauty plays a part in attraction; the most beautiful woman with the most annoying personality ... is not fun for more than a weekend, or so ... [;)]

One's league is more defined by one's grasp of life, than by one's appearence.

windchymes -> RE: Not pretty enough? (5/22/2007 2:43:53 AM)

Maybe she's a lesbian and wants to play in the Bush League?

(For you young un's, this has nothing to do with our current president.  It's an old sports league)

SirKenin -> RE: Not pretty enough? (5/22/2007 2:47:58 AM)

I thought the Bush League was the French women's afternoon tea.

puella -> RE: Not pretty enough? (5/22/2007 3:18:16 AM)

I am not going to affirm this girl's choices of placing beauty above all, but I must, on some level say... welcome to a woman's world.

Women have been held in slavery to societal standards of beauty as one of the major (if not, in many cases the only) justifications of worth as a partner for a very long time...

Perhaps what you are seeing with this girl is what that breeds.  Pretty girls who have been taught that beauty is all important, might actually only underdstand that as a valuation system... which means it is going to get turned back on you.

Everyone has preferences... if they become so absolute and inflexible as to become rigid alienations... well.. you get the point.

Yes, that having a huge dong and/or bank account helps. [:)]

I'd just forget it.  There are always those who think they're sooooo hot.  I mean, we all have the right to what we want, but she might have come up with a better way to express it.

NakedGirlScout -> RE: Not pretty enough? (5/22/2007 3:43:31 AM)

The whole thing about there being a "league" is just so weird and rubs me the wrong way. Whose to say which people fall into which league? Tastes run so differently. One may be called "a perfect 10" when to another person looking they might be "maybe a 4." If that girl were a little bit less abrasive she could have specified that she was looking for a certain age limit, height limit, weight limit... whatever mattered to her... and then said nothing more rude as she can see people's photos for herself and can decide one by one if she is attracted.

goodpet -> RE: Not pretty enough? (5/22/2007 3:52:47 AM)

I guess I am in a league of my own. not sure what end it is on though........

But it's OK that  i live in my own little world and league by myself,, they know me here.

There is a growing counter-pretty movement occurring.
quote:

He’s bald and podgy, with a pock-marked face, and is easily the ugliest man in the room. She sidles into the chair next to him.
‘Hi, gorgeous,’ she purrs. The man’s gargoyle face breaks into a toothless smile.
The good-looking men know they don’t stand a chance.
Selena has dated her fair share of hunks, but has given up on gorgeous guys because they’re dull – both in and out of bed.
‘I can’t imagine anything more boring than classic handsome looks,’ she says. ‘I prefer no teeth, baldness and piercings to model looks. I like celebs such as Adrien Brody and Mackenzie Crook rather than Brad Pitt.
‘Ugly men try harder. They care more about you and treat you like a princess. Good-looking guys are self-obsessed. That’s not attractive.’

It was a bit rude to say so, but people really don't have any problem sending off a snark filled email to anyone they please for whatever reason they want.

However, it is what almost everyone thinks when they get approached by someone- the immediate first impression judgement call.  This definitely includes "Are in around the same league?"

I don't think the quote shows she's counter-pretty.  It shows that she's made a rational decision to maximize the return on her investment.  Beauty is not a timeless commodity.  It's perishable: age and accidents happen.  So the smartest thing to do isn't to find the best looking guy in the world; it's to find the richest or most powerful guy you can get.  Pretty girl gets ugly but rich/powerful guy, and she doesn't need to work so hard to maintain those rock-hard abs or worry that she's getting too much sun.

I didn't fully understand this phenomenon until I started traveling to Washington, DC on research.  I noticed...there sure were a lot of trollish guys with perfect 10 girls!  Then it hit me: duh, it's DC, and women are attracted to money and power.  Look, folks...shallowness isn't a male or female trait--it's a human trait.

imthatacheyouhav -> RE: Not pretty enough? (5/22/2007 8:00:31 AM)

I have to admit i have seen a few profiles and thought to myself...*dont even bother to write, he'll never consider me* so in that sense i guess i'm saying i'm not in their league....

Your words say that you and she were in the same "league,"  i.e. if neither of you are perfect 10's, why does that kill you?  I don't understand what you're saying. why did that kill you?

*Sir Kitty rips out his hair and busts out his teeth to be less boring*

O  NO! What have I done, it's a being nice money thing!!!... silly me.

118 lbs of your finest beauty "commodity" plea$e.

apettiger -> RE: Not pretty enough? (5/22/2007 8:09:01 AM)

no matter what i look like there will be some P/people who will look at me and go "ewwwwww" and then there will be some who will go "ooooohhhh", so i am not going to change how i look. my One will accept me and think i am beautiful no matter what i look like.
Y/you can please some of the P/people, some of the time, most of the P/people most of the time, but Y/you cannot please all of the P/people all of the time.

HOw do you know she was referring to looks? Did you ask her?

Maybe she was commenting on intelligence levels, age, hobbies...it could have meant 1 of a thousand different things.
