Well, the best solution would be to have Americans worry about America, and let Iraqis worry about Iraq (or insert any other country in the final equation).

But, that doesn't change history ... and for goodness sakes, don't confuse my pointing this out, with a call for this sort of thinking (although I bet I get flamed anyway [;)]).

History is full of examples of one nation completely demolishing another, and the defeated becoming the closest of allies with the nation that defeated them. It seems to make little sense, but has happened too often to just ignore.

By the way ... welcome back. [:D]

ta, it's good to be back :)
.....mind you, history also has a few examples of what might euphemistically called 'hanging onto a grudge for a few generations'. Perhaps an interesting line of debate might be what decides how a conquered country sees a conquering one? Under what circumstances do they become allies, what circumstances create multi-generational enemies?

...see, a whole post without flames :)

Anyone else notice a pattern here?  [8|]

p.s.  I saw the pattern in 1986.   I have made the point in other threads that everything AnencephalyBoy is doing were already tried by both us and other people (like the USSR) and proven unworkable.

Hi there, philosophy, good to see you posting again.  [:D]

In answer to your question about enemies becoming allies,
I think that several factors come into play.  One is the length
of time they have been at each other's throats, one is how much
cultural differences separate them and how many cultural
similarities they share, and finally, is whether or not they have
a shared outside threat or perceived enemy.

(I suggest you post that question as a whole other thread, it is
 a great separate discussion!)
