"Gay flamingos pick up chick" Monday, May 21, 12:03 ET " LONDON (AFP) - A pair of gay flamingos have adopted an abandoned chick, becoming parents after being together for six years, a British conservation organisation said Monday. Carlos and Fernando had been desperate to start a family, even chasing other flamingos from their nests to take over their eggs at the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust (WWT) in Slimbridge near Bristol. But their egg-sitting prowess made them the top choice for taking an unhatched egg under their wings when one of the Greater Flamingo nests was abandoned. The couple, together for six years, can feed chicks by producing milk in their throats. "Fernando and Carlos are a same sex couple who have been known to steal other flamingos' eggs by chasing them off their nest because they wanted to rear them themselves," said WWT spokeswoman Jane Waghorn. "They were rather good at sitting on eggs and hatching them so last week, when a nest was abandoned, it seemed like a good idea to make them surrogate parents." Gay flamingos are not uncommon, she added. "If there aren't enough females or they don't hit it off with them, they will pair off with other males," she said. Hehe next they will be saying Flamingos are UNATURAL. so let's see gay flamingo, female lizards the produce eggs asexually, making lil clones of themselves. Their response will be that they are just a bunch of dumb animals and that such comparissons between them and humans can't be made. EVEN if it also proves that gay couples can sucessefuly(sp) raise offspring/kids. Heres a good way to stump them. If Homosexuality is a LEARNED behavior where did the first one come from then? think about it. When they bring up the bible says its wrong, counter with, but so is incest, but if we believe everything the bible says then we are here because of incest. Adam Eve and their kids were the start of the human race. Yes at one point in the mythology the big man sent down angles to lay with the daughters of men. Regardless we are here because of the some interfamily boning. The above usually clams them up real fast and sends them running if not changing the subject.

Male flamingos picking up chicks are gay? I am shocked. I will run right up to West Hollyweird and let all the male flamingos mincing about on Hollyweird and Santa Monica Blvd that such behavior will make some think they are homosexuals. Who would have thought... Sinergy

Ok, so gay flamingos exist, which means being gay is not unatural. Knew that already. But really are these flamingoes a role model? I mean yes they adopted a poor orphan, but remember they spent all the previous time trying to kidnap the other flamingo's eggs.

Well, the flamingos seem to usually follow "serial monogamy", remaining monogamous through one breeding season. (According to some related articles on the Net about the pair) These two gay flamingos have been together for several years. Oh god I am a bird geek - There are a few birds that pair and mate for life, like swans and parakeets etc. If there aren't their opposite around, they will pair with one of the same sex. If you have a parakeet on it's own, you may even find your single parakeet bonding with you (or someone in your household) - they will even treat you to a little vomit now and then if you let them - [;)] Peace

Ehhh... our African Grey tries to feed both my mother and I. He's decided we're good enough to pair bond with. She handles him more often than anyone in the house. And I feed the blighter breakfast. But the only voice he'll copy is my father's. And boy does he ever! (Including the stuff we aren't too sure he should be saying). He has us well trained... that evil little... mutters
