I was unsure as to whether to place this in off topic or not - but here it is -

quote:

According to reseach by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), women have more nerve receptors, which cause them to feel pain more intensely than men. Women averaged 34 nerve fibers per square centimeter of skin while men only averaged 17 nerve fibers. Despite psychosocial expectations for men to be tougher than women when feeling pain, these findings illustrate that women's lower pain tolerance and threshold are physical.
(ARTICLE)

(I know this is a fairly old article, but it is still upheld and is the original source)
I wonder on the reaction of masochists of both sexes on this study?
(Sadists and others also - I just wondered if such a claim provoked reaction)

i've also heard that women with smaller breasts are more sensitive than women with larger breasts because although they have the same NUMBER of nerve endings....they're less spread out.

so given that on average, men tend to have more surface area than women, i wonder if tis the same phenomena?

interesting question though!

I gave birth to a 9lb [8lb 14.9 oz] baby with few drugs, I dug my nails into my exhusband and he went out of his mind telling the nurse to 'get those damn nails out' of him, lol; women may have more pain receptors, but we handle pain a LOT better, or at least differently. Nahhhhhhh we handle pain better, because we experince more of it in a lifetime.

I'm not a masocist, pain is very very bad as far as I am concerned, I have handle the pain I have endured as best as I can.

edited coz my sinus mes are makign me a bit loopy

i think it depends in part on the sort of pain.  If women really remembered the pain of childbirth, there'd be fewer 2nd children, or 3rd, etc.  i also think if Men experienced what women do as their body prepares for the experiences of menstruation or menopause, They'd set up an Emergency Council to research ways to alleviate it.

Then there is pain such as from an injury or even illness.  i think Some Men handle this better than some women.  i cannot agree that it's true across the table.  When my ex caught the sniffles he'd act as if he had contracted bubonic plague.

I gave birth naturally to a 8lb 6 oz baby with no meds. I've had kidney stones three times and now gallstones. Out of all of those the only ones that made me ask for pain meds was the damn kidney stones. All I can say is I am not  a masochist and kidney stone pain is enough to make you wish for death.

I vote for that.. nahhhh I LOVED being pregnant, pain and all. We do truely forget about the pain. Heck, I can't wait to get pregnant, I want o do 2 or 3 babies in as many years. Now all I gotta do is find a good man who wants the same {starts looking around}.
