Orphan dinner last evening - 6 gay men all trying to "show off" their cooking skills! - One IS a chef, another 2 with some training. Opening act: Shrimp with horseradish sauce, sweet gherkins, sweet Italian mini-peppers, kalmata olives. TWO turkeys - one traditional roasted; one deep fat fried (in the brand-new deep-fat fryer "pot" designed for turkeys) Garlic mashed potatoes Stuffing with Chorizo sausage. Killer gravy! (Of course.) Yams (sliced and boiled) with black sea salt & fresh ground pepper atop. (Not a marshmallow to be seen.) Fresh, steamed Brussel sprouts (Cut in half before steaming and then after steaming, the cut sides were lightly browned by pan-frying in a seasoned butter.) Home-made cranberry relish Refigerator dough cresent rolls - yummy, but not "equal" to rest of the quality Dessert was plated in the kitchen by one of the boys and served by another (The desserts were served on square plates - which made these desserts really "work") Homemade vanilla ice cream with my blueberry bourbon sauce Homemade pumpkin pie with freshly whipped (yeah, yeah. standard jokes were made) cream Homemade apple pie with more ice cream. Various and assorted wines were shared out. Non-alcoholic? Welch's sparkling red grape juice! NOT as sweet as one might imagine. Welch's has "hit the mark" with me. And since Walgreen's had it on sale at $2.50 per bottle, I think I'll get a case! LOL! Oh, and since the WIN listened to that all, it needs to sleep.... I'll just put it here in my lap.... no kitty in this house, so it makes a great substitute.
