I recently mentioned in another thread that I was hoping my profession (nursing) would lend itself well to being a dom.  Unfortunately this seemed to be misconstrued as meaning I planned to tie up and abuse my patients.  Actually I was referring to learning sterile technique, safety, and basically having study that would make me more capable of keeping my sub safe and healthy.

I'm curious if anyone out there has found that their own professions have lent resources, skills, or information that has come in useful in their lifestyle.

I do not think your post was taken in that way at all. Nobody suggested that you planned to tie or abuse your patients. You were asked, though, to clarify what you meant by "becoming a nurse for the Dom capabilites" You did not answer that question on the thread in question so no wonder people asked you what you meant.

Your capacity for grace and tact is beyond bounds, Earthycouple.  Please accept my sincere thanks and know that I will bow to your infinite wisdom and pray to god that I can emulate you in every way.  You are without doubt the epitome of knowledge on this, that, and any other topic that may arise.  I was wrong to express my own opinions and from this day forward I live only in the hope that one day my life will match your pre-ordained plan.  As your knowledge is without fault and your truths beyond doubt.

All Glory and Honor to You and You alone, in this life and the next.

Amen.

Hmmmm....I just asked Mistress, and never did I accuse anyone of wanting to tie up or abuse patients, I only asked the question.   Funny, it's now mentioned here. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm

Ahem....please, on your knees and head bowed.   Not only are you a terrible nurse, but your sarcasm isn't even funny.

Above controversy aside ...

I am a midwife and a teacher, and the broad skills of observing, protecting and guiding roll over nicely from work to D/s.  Some of the teaching that I did consisting of guiding students through material that made students feel emotionally vulnerable.  In D/s, I do the same, but indulge myself by rocking the submissive's boat much more than I can and would with students.  I like seeing someone in a crisis situation and their response to it.  I like seeing the process of self-discovery.  Midwifery and D/s are very similar in this regard.

(What do you mean benefist to being a Master?  You sick pos, what does your lifestyle have to do with your job?  And you then say again (quoting) Becoming a nurse for the dom capabilities is not my primary push. )

That was what you said initially.  You then went on to ask what I meant by dom capabilities.  I might have answered, but that wasn't the end of your post.  You went on to call me a 'sick puke' tell me to 'go live under a rock' and also threatened to run me out of my field if you ever meet me.  Do we really have to rehash this again?  I didn't name you nor did I name the thread.  I set up the past for my topic and then posted my question.  I can only guess that you must be tracking my posts.

It seems this thread is doomed already.  So while you're all reading my posts and deciding whether I'm a worthless pos please note that not once in all of it do I make a single direct insult against anyone in that thread.  I do not call names.  I do not mock people who are obviously experienced.  Nor did I even provoke.  What I said was honest.  They took offense that I had a different approach to the field they both love, and decided to take it as a personal offense.

((edited)) Thank you for that, Mysweet.  That's the sort of thing I was looking for.  I appreciate it.

I respond to posts as I see them. If you do not wish people to respond to things then do not post them in the first place. Sending me private messages complaining about my response to you is a little childish I think. Had you replied to the questions asked of you in the original thread instead perhaps people would have understood your point.

The only person responsible for how you are perceived on these fora is you. As for derailing your thread, I was actually pointing out that you had made an incorrect statement in your OP.

I respond to posts on threads here on the forum not in private emails so if you wish to discuss this further you can do so here.

you didn't name the thread because you know what kind of response you will get.  I could care less if you feel I track posts..I actually was browsing like always and clicked on the newest.

i was a lawyer.  i generally don't practice anymore; just handle occassional matters to keep my skills up.  i cannot imagine how this would in any way "help" me in the lifestyle; in fact i have rejected Men with 5 or 6 lawsuits going on who felt i should become Their submissive and handle the legal work for free.

I've been a tutor on the college's pay roll for years now.  Good parttime job while a student.  And very good to help learn to teach others, such as slaves.

My studied professional fields, proper, are Chemical Engineering and Physics.  Neither directly contributes to my D/s relationships.

Sure, I work in what's loosely termed the metal trades and its come in very handy for building my own toys and devices.  *Every* job has its fringe benefits.... lol

Just curious if working in nursing does actually make you "safer".  I'm not doubting your skill, ethic or dedication etc, I'm thinking more along the lines that if it's something you're conditioned to do virtually all the time, doesn't that make for days when over confidence leads to the odd second of carelessness - as is human to do...?

Really not looking for a "blue" (blew? = fight) here, just curious.  I'm working on the fairly common circumstance that many an auto mechanic seems to drive a rattly ole smoke belchin' bomb for personal transport....  lol

Actually, most of the nurses (female) I've come across have all been deeply submissive.  Be that as it may.....

I have found that being in an industry known for its professional liars it's pretty easy for me in the Lifestyle as a dominant.

*waits for that remark to settle in

Of course, it was easy even before all that.  I just wanted to have my image tainted ever so slightly.

I run a photo lab.  Doesnt do much for my bieng Dominant, but it does make it far more convenient to actualy develop pictures of scenes without worrying who might see them and any embarassment of that sort.

Hi ya Focus.

Well as for making me safer?  No.  Being safe rests on being intelligent.  Did I gain a skill or two as I took the ride through nursing school? Yes.  Could I have learned said skills from any profiecient dominant who engages in those things? Absolutely.  Sterile Technique, needles, catheters, enemas can all be taught.  Families do these things in their home with sick family members all the time...sometimes BETTER than their home health nurses because they have been doing it so long for their beloved family member.

I can't recall ever feeling like I was going through a motion with something that requires my brain to function while working as a nurse.  Even for the patient I've given the same meds to for the last 4 years I check each and every med.  If I just pop the pills out of the cards into a cup without paying much attention to the drugs I risk things like: the pharmacy sending the wrong dose, a nurse before me putting another patient's card in the wrong spot, or maybe the patient exhibits a symptom that makes me know I should "hold" a certain dose of something. Every single pill every single card of pills is checked and before I even pop out the pills to give, I assess my patient.

I have an example for almost any "task" in nursing you can give me.  Those who do go through the motions are the ones that you, your family and friends complain about later.

Hope that helps.

Accounting doesn't help much, nor did doing personnel and human resources work. Fetish modeling sometimes gave me ideas for scenes.

I sure as hell wouldn't want an arrogant ass being my nurse, I pity any patients under his care.  Unable to listen and learn, horrible traits for a dom or anyone in charge of care for another.

Very much so. Communicating often, even when the only communication is "I just wanted to let you know that things are progessing but I have no new news", keeping people happy and in step with what is going on, is vital. I have to keep a cool head and view things from many different points of view. I have to be strong and stand firm, even when my position is not the popular one. I have to be able to read people quickly and well. My job requires me to be in a nurturer role as well as in the role of the voice of reason, even when the two positions see to be at odds. I have to be both understanding and sympathetic, as well as realistic. It is all helpful practice.
