Hiya Liz, and welcome to the forums! I'm going to offer you a two-part bit of advice. First, personally, I always think it's better to seek out mentors in real-time, as much as possible. I think it's great that you two are going to your first play party. If I were you, while I was there, not only would I be checking out the hot action, but I would also be scanning the room(s) for potential friends. I'd be watching people's technique, etiquette and trying to ascertain who in my judgment looks like they both know what they are doing and who seems like they are approachable and might be interested in mentoring another. I would also be watching to see who are the more experienced players, but more importantly, those who seem to have gained a positive reputation...but beware, even those who may have gained a good rep, may be in unsuited to mentoring or may not be what they seem to be publicly. Second, as for online friends/mentors, you might want to stick around the boards for while and even venture over to the chats and just post, talk and watch others for a while. It will become obvious to you those who share your interests, POVs and who seem like they have something they might be willing to share/teach you and your Master. Even if people write you wonderful emails and have marvelous profiles, watch how they interact with others. That will clue you into whether that is the sort of person you believe you can respect and learn from. All the best to you and your Master MNN
