I am assuming that many of us travel for both work and pleasure. There are some that travel to give demo's in different parts of the country. I know our things may range from a simple vibrator to what some may consider weapons (especially those in airport security positions) So how do you transport your things, to ensure that they remain clean, or in medical play sterile while ensuring that you are not arrested or your things confiscated?

My Boston partner flew down this weekend and had a singletail and a few other toys in his checked luggage. Obviously, don't carry on anything you aren't ok with losing. I've heard lots of stories of people checking their toys and not having a problem, but who knows who checks into what and if you are worried about being out that might not be the way to go.

One good option I've heard is to fedex your toys ahead of you.

I have found that so long as you check your luggage, and remove the batteries from the toys before you pack them.. there isn't too much of a problem.. Airports have been shut down from vibrators going off in luggage. And I personally have experiences then unpacking my carryon bag to reveal my strap on in front of a long line of people.. Ironic thing was 3 men in the line gave me thier business card.. lol.. Hence I always check mine.. if they loose it, it is insured.

I have traveled extensively recently and never had a problem with my toys. I pack them in the suitcase and remove all the batteries. Some of the bags have been searched and I am sure I have caused some chuckles when the bags gets x-rayed.

And they leave a nice little note when they inspect your toy bag...

westside,

LOL Now I'm curious, what would the note usually say? [:D]

Ha! Ha! This just happened to Me! The Mistress that I was travelling with got Her bag looked through, the security guards just looked at Us and so We DOMMED them! We started laughing and joking with them! We told them that We were going to visit a client and since nothing was sharp and there was nothing in Our shoes, they laughed and let Us on the plane without a problem.

However, I suggest Yyou contact the airline several days before travelling and make special arrangements - have a note placed on your ticket ID stating that Yyou are a performer travelling with (list equipment). In other words, give them a manifest so that security is prepared. This has worked well for Me since 9/11.

LadyBadger -> RE: Traveling, Airport Security and Our Toys (5/27/2005 6:57:06 PM)

a sister FemDomme once shared that her dildo was confiscated due to being a "biohazard"! first & only time I'd ever heard of that happening... LOL!

otherwise, gear can be labeled as "props" for a stage show... everyone I know has advised packing it all to be checked baggage as well as never taking anything one couldn't live without...

when traveling to New Orleans recently, that's exactly what we did -- packed a gear bag of items that we weren't all that attached to and checked the bag... nothing was lost and we had no problems bringing everything home with us...

my boy has had more problems with his nipple & cock rings (depends on the airport)!

I used to work as an airport security screener and you have the right to a private screening if you want. As soon as they say they need to look inside tell them you need a private screening and they will accomodate you. If you put it in your checked luggage and it sets off the alarm sometimes they will check your whole bag and run tests on everything. Hope this helps someone.

Emeraldslave2, I can identify with travel to/fro Boston. Recently I traveled from Boston to Orlando and made the "mistake" of placing a magnificent flogger in my carry-on bag. "Mistake" because when my bag was pulled aside for further check, the original inspector thought I might melt just because I was confronted with what he found - I asked for a supervisor to make a ruling and when she saw it, she sort of smiled, but was shaking her head sideways and saying no. Her reason: the very well-made handle was firm and could be used to strike someone on the head (as opposed to the "business ends" most of us consider when picturing a flogger) and immobilize them. I respected her explanation and reluctantly agreed to check it through normal baggage handling. The nice post script here is that the supervisor who made the ruling accompanied me to the check in area, found a way to the front of the line, told the ground crew agent to find a secure box and packed it herself in front of me. She wished me luck, smiled, and said she hoped I had a nice arrival. I thanked her for being understanding and helping me make my flight on time - and learned again to always treat the people nice who can make things nice. I was embarrassed, of course, but she made it ok. Maybe the "acceptance" of who we are is spreading?

Holy crap, that must of been embarrassing and kinda freakin' ridiculous.

Someone's vagina would have to be pretty rancid to make their vibrator a "biohazard".

LadyBadger -> RE: Traveling, Airport Security and Our Toys (5/28/2005 9:17:05 PM)

it was the concept that it was an insertable and in contact with bodily fluids of unknown type... personally I think that particular inspector was being prudish & looking for a way to have his/her way...

now personally I use "clean sex" methods when using my toys, but there ARE those who would never think/dream of/consider using a condom to cover a dildo, much less clean it! ::eyes crossing at the thought of crusted body fluids::

Well, I went to Japan in september for a few months (studying program). With my legendary luck (if something wrong may happen it will happen to me) at the airport the security guards decided to open my bags. I think I will always remember the look on their faces when they found my toys. They just stepped back with a horror look and they screamed at me "what are these things, what are you planning to do with that in our country?"
....like I was going to kill someone[:D]
My bags were entirely searched, I had to answer to the police (and with me not speaking japanese and them not speaking english it was just great) and at the main gate of the airport some persons from the Uni I was to enter were waiting for me to bring me to my student house...they waited for 40 minutes.
I still don`t know if they were told what happened...probably.

So for me, next time I`m using the post office

MistressTaboo -> RE: Traveling, Airport Security and Our Toys (6/10/2005 2:47:27 PM)

A few years back (before 9/11) I was traveling with a carryon bag full of toys. Of course the scanner showed all kinds of things. They took me aside for a 'private' screening. While the flogger, rope and vibrator were ok...they made me check the bag because of the handcuffs and the restraints. Oh well. It was all there when I got to the other side. I checked it on the way back and never had an issue.

Sylverdawn -> RE: Traveling, Airport Security and Our Toys (6/11/2005 8:25:05 AM)

Fed EX is a wonderful thing.. Often people who are distrubtors of toys will Fed Ex from show to show.. wonderfully insured if lost..not that I have known there to be a problem. If you going to an event call the hotel you are staying at and arrange for you package to be waiting for you at the front desk.
