Two interesting pieces at Slate. Iraq veteran Phillip Carter outlines steps toward a withdrawal. He says, Compelling arguments still justify our persistence in Iraq.... Nonetheless, it would be negligent for us to ignore the possibility of a withdrawal. To not plan for it would be military malpractice." "Iraq is a commitment for a decade," say Bing West (a former assistant secretary of defense) and Owen West (a marine who has served two tours in Iraq). "Our best hope," they argue, "is the Adviser Model" in which some 80,000 U.S. troups would guide and work with a growing Iraqi army.
