Yeah.....[:D] good definitions...I am happy with those. Problem being not everyone adhere's to those standards, but, if they did, I would be happy being "labeled" a submissive/Domme.....depending on which side of the switch was flipped.

Thank you for shareing that insight Lawrence111.

have a great day,

Are people actually READING the list before they make these posts? Or are they just making a generalized stand against what they think this "malevolent" levels list might do to harm their bdsm?

Please read the list!

The list doesn't devalue anyone. It describes.
It's not for people who "follow trends". There are no directions here. No orders.
It's not written in stone. Here it's written in electrons.
The list doesn't prescribe anything. It describes based on anthropological observation. Hey anthro, please help me out here!

The list explictly says that one number is not better than another. Neither do you reach the ultimate when you get to nine. These levels aren't stages of graduation. NOT first Kindergarten, then junior high, then college. NO!

The levels are more like hair color. Blond, White, Brown, Black, Orange. That's what I meant by "spectrum" in my last post. Blond isn't better than auburn. You don't naturally turn into a blond after you've been black for awhile. And yes, most people are mixtures of many different hair colors. Think of the nine levels of submission as a color chart. A bdsm periodic table of the elements. No judgement here. Just observation. 'Kay?

I remember how I felt when I first read those "9 Levels of submsision". I was seriously worried ! lol
I couldn't fit into any of these 9 levels and therefore I simply concluded that the author of that text hasn't been thorough enough.

I think the many variances there are would be more than 9 levels and I don’t believe anyone can be slotted into just one level

(fast reply)
When i first posted on this thread in 2004 i said i was probably a "6", but that was with my first R/L dom, which was part-time.  Now that Hubby is my Dom i am between a 7 and 8 and loving it.[:)]

MzMia -> RE: 9 Levels of submission (5/29/2007 9:27:44 PM)

I discovered the 9 levels listed here years ago.
I know we can bicker and banter about whether we like them or not.
But I enjoy having them and using them as a marker, to at least show
a "potential" partner.
It is interesting to hear where a submissive IS on those levels and where
a submissive wants to BE, based on those 9 levels.
I don't expect to find an instant 8, I would not want someone who begins a relationship on that level.
I would love to find at least a 6 or 7 and have it lead up to an 8. [;)]
Then I can settle down for the rest of my life, with my 8.

mistoferin -> RE: 9 Levels of submission (5/29/2007 9:49:48 PM)

Yeah I could settle with a good solid 8 for the rest of my life too! Oh wait.....we're not talking about inches here?

The 9 Levels of Submission? Pffffffffffffffffffffttttttttttttttttt

Remember these are guidelines and not set in stone nor meant to be mindlessly followed by everyone as THE ONLY WAY

Geez, I remember reading this list years ago and laughing.  The nine levels?  Ok, whatever.

Seven pleasing characteristics by Lapp Topp?  Even if this weren't a three plus year old thread it would be pretty danged funny.  Not to mention that I found it in three languages on a quick search as well as copyrighted on the "Castle Realm" site.  The copyright date is 1997, I remember reading it way back when, in the old days, when I was just being initiated into the Old Guard in a special, top-secret European leather family that is some 25 generations old......

Being on Castle Realm is enough to make me discount it entirely.  Call me a snob, I'm fine with it (grin).....
