Mine is up and running (Im embaressed to admit) cuz a couple of geeks I know use it.

If it is "poofing", you might want to check your internet connection

Yahoo IM has too many annoying bells and whistles for me.  I use trillian, which you can use to connect to MSN, AIM, YahooIM, ICQ, or IRC.  Not a fix, but you might want to try it.

lace,

Nice to see you again.  Please check your email.

Edited to add:  It would also help if you would post
the information about which operating system you are
running, etc.  It will get you better answers if the people
trying to help know what you (they) are working with
when trying to fix something.

UMMMMMMMMM!

Listen up here.  I fried 2 computers due to yahoo messenger. what ever is in it is not cohesive. i no longer use it- i had my hard drive wiped- and it is STILL bugging my system!

uninstalling it doesnt work.  earlier versions dont work. it has a mind of its own. they lost me as a user.

Yahoo works when it feels like it, I know they have been working on the servers at different times changing things as it is joining up with other chat programs, and at various times it has problems with all sorts of things.

But if this persists check that it has not been blocked by your fire wall, and if has not, maybe down loading it again a fresh copy, as once in a while there is a fault in the down load, but I would advise giving your computer a clean out before you do anything.

Also sometimes but not always if you go into - program folders by going through windows explorer (not internet explorer) go to program files folder listed under where it shows your main hard drive and expand that, scroll down to yahoo and expand that folder, and expand the folder messenger, there you will see a folder called (cache) - delete this folder.

This sometimes helps not always but sometimes it does, this will not have any bad effects on how yahoo works but sometimes if you have received boots etc this sometimes helps.

Hope this helps

Serious? How odd.  I've been using it since it existed without issue.  Only time I had a problem is when I downloaded BDSM emoticons, it screwed me all up, so I reinstalled Messenger to wipe that out.

I use it regularly, for family, friends, and Master.  Don't like MSN and always had trouble with AOL.

Never heard of this "poofing" phenomena though.  I'd uninstall and reinstall, and try a different user name to see if it's the program itself or the name being hacked.

As much of a pain in the arse yahoo is its a fact that it does not wipe your hard drive only thing that will fuck up the computer is either the operator or a virus you or someone else put in there, and hard drives do not fry, from software programs you might have to reformat the hard drive from a virus but it wont fry it.

If you can not reformat the hard drive it was either faulty, old, or power surge or over heating in the computer was going on, nothing to do with any software or internet related program.

And if you reformated your hard drive correctly no program can still bug it after reloading it.
