What's wrong with blocking people?

The facilities available why not use it. We are discriminating all the time in who we choose to chat to, why is it considered offensive

DianeB269 -> RE: Blocking (5/25/2007 9:59:20 PM)

Nothings wrong with it. I use it at least once a day.
My blocked user list is getting very long.

slaverosebeauty -> RE: Blocking (5/25/2007 10:03:09 PM)

I MAXED out my blocked list about a year ago. I don't get many emails on here anymore though. Nothing wrong with blocking people, its another tool.

gooddogbenji -> RE: Blocking (5/25/2007 10:04:09 PM)

LOOK OUT!!!  THAT QUESTION'S LOADED!!!

Duck, Diane!

Whew!!  You almost got hit.  You have to be careful with those questions; they can go off at any time, and without warning.

Yours,

benji

Consider the source. Who considers it offensive? Though I'm more of a "delete unread" person, myself, it's your choice how to manage your own account.

** Edited to add Or are you talking about the "having your say and then blocking so no response" tactic, which does seem to push a lot of people's buttons?

I don't consider it offensive, and can see that doing so may be necessary and beneficial.

Given current threads, it is possible the context of blocking that led to this question is to chew someone out and then block them to prevent an opportunity to respond. In this context, I find blocking unimpressive. If a conversation reaches such a point, I think one should simply stop responding or end the conversation with words rather than to send a flame and then block.

I have never blocked anyone on the forums, at least. It is my goal to achieve the mental capacity to keep my information channels open and not allow a poster to get to me. In other words, I would rather rely on myself to ignore a post as needed.

Cheers,

Sea

juliaoceania -> RE: Blocking (5/25/2007 10:40:53 PM)

There is nothing inherently wrong with blocking people, I just do not do it. I do not allow words on a page to upset me enough to cause me to block someone.

I do think it somewhat childish to announce to the person that you are blocking that you are doing so... kinda like "neener neener neener, I blocked you and now you can't say anything to me"

Sinergy -> RE: Blocking (5/25/2007 10:43:21 PM)

I dont block people because I might miss out on the opportunity to ridicule them.

lmao now that was priceless.

i do use it.  i have a heart condition.  i am a very sensitive person.  Sarcasm and folks who are rude genuinely bother me.  i use it to make my life easier in order to not be upset.  i treat folks the way i want to be treated.  i am not treated the same and folks are rude they go on block.

Well with all the name calling, harassing, and stalking that you do, it is indeed karma in action when someone says something that you consider rude... you know the saying, we see the world how we are, not as it truly exists... most days I notice more people being kind than likewise.

Thank you very much, minnetar.

I could have also posted that I dont block anybody because I always hold out hope that I might learn something from whoever I am interacting with in whatever venue I am interacting with them in.

But that doesnt sound nearly as funny.

thanks Julia - guess based on that comment you are seeking to be blocked. Give me a break.  By the way - you made a comment on me stalking?  Who am i doing that to?  i am honest with my opinions and don't necessarily always agree with yours.  Unfortunately i like your
Dom but the jury is out on you.

juliaoceania -> RE: Blocking (5/25/2007 11:23:07 PM)

I am not speaking of me minnetar, but of many many others that I have seen you call names and insult just because they disagree with you.

I think you should use the block if others upset you so much.... seriously. If you cannot control your emotional states that is your issue and responsibility. I am sorry that you have heart trouble and get upset so easily. If I had that problem and a forum upset me as much as it does you, I would find a more relaxing hobby instead of expecting that everyone else would change to suit me...

Block away if I upset you. It is not my intention to do so, but I am not here to please or displease you either

       I visualize blocking as chaining them to the corridor wall with a bit of duct tape over their mouths.  Mostly it's those who I regard as purely clutter.  Occasionally, it will be someone a bit more credible who is behaving like a dick in a thread I'm active in.  Those are just STFU and I open them back up within a day or two.

Julia,
Give it a break please.  You continually take a stance on an issue.  You don't discuss the other person's opinion you go on the attack.  That is the basic difference in debating.  You are right and everyone else is wrong and because of that you  ALWAYS make personal attacks.

Julia you also missed the point.  People attack others in order to improve their self esteem rather than discuss issues.  That is what disturbs me on a personal issue.  You want to argue something based on facts and not attack on a personal level as you basically did in your last post then do it.  You NEVER DO.  Everything you every argue is on a personal level rather than factual.

Julia - argue based on facts and stop with the attacks.  Back them up with facts and not hate.  You have lost your credibility based on how you respond to others and i feel sorry for that.

I do not care how you feel about me minnetar. I will reiterate, I am not here for you, your opinion about me means nothing whatsoever.. please feel free to block me. I would be in very good company with all the others that you have blocked.

julia YOU ALWAYS MISS THE POINT - look at how you discuss issues and deal with others.  You truly don't have a clue.

         Yes.  And the best way to deal with it is to simply walk away and not play into it.

minnetar -> RE: Blocking (5/25/2007 11:45:40 PM)

Sinergy,
You are starting to scare me because i thought you had some respect for others and you and your sub continually show you have none.  The arguments have no validity and i thought you had alot more sense.  You are wasting your time.

minnetar
