i have learned to be so on these boards.

There are certian things you just SHOULD NOT say on these boards

Like, sometimes i just DONT want to obey. Because as being a submissive you should always want to obey. Or as i have heard alot of subs go around behind their Doms backs. Which you shouldnt say if you do either, because it defeats the whole purpose of being a submissive.

(Of course no one seems to like to mention that it isnt ALWAYS easy and sometimes quite a struggle that they might fail at)

Yes never mention you dont obey or dont want to at times. You will surely be jumped. = )

The disclamiers. Need i explain them?

The words with no defintions.

The not labeling of labeling others and agreeing to their labels. But not needing to agree to their labels, but accepting them as their labels.

Which of course isnt ALL of it and everyone is welcome to put down their own "views" of the politically correctness that we must all abide by here? Does anyone ever feel like they're in Washington DC (in congress no less) walking through a mine field trying to put down their thoughts and views with out offending some group or another?

and OF COURSE this is just my view, it is not necassarily everyone elses view, nor am i saying it is the correct view it is just my view. Not that i am labeling other ppl with labels they dont want on them or disrespect other ppl's lables or their views or opionons. This is just MY opionon and it is how i FEEL and the definitions i set for myself.

Please feel free to add to as trying to skirt around offending anyone by placing my thoughts and feelings down has done my head in

People have been saying that for upwards of 6 month's here. Is it going to change? Doubtful so we just have to live with what we have.
There is no perfect society. Especially online. At least in person you can surround yourself with like minded individuals.

Grin and bear it I'd say...I don't see a solution anytime in the future.

<grins> i'm not looking for a solution. Its really just an observation. To me, it is just how it is and if i want to come here and "post" with the others i must abide by these rules! But still the humour of it all, tickles me so to say = ) Though to define humour tickling me over the net, its also funny as it is = )

Well there's the common "OK so maybe I DID get in a little over my head and that dom I was mooning over all on the boards a few weeks ago is kinda getting a bit annoying and weird and not at all like I thought"

People in bdsm do all the icky nasty vile things that every group of people through history have done, and it does indeed take a brave person to stand up and say "yes I did that" and deal with the aftermath.

Oh, that is for sure!

Really? I guess I had the opposite impression - I have been very impressed by people's willingness to discuss their struggles in living as a slave. I think if anyone gets jumped on for expressing such thoughts it would be (unfortunately) new members who do not have reputation for sincerity and commitment.

Online forums and mail lists are not always the warmest of places.

Huh?

Oh yes. But real life is the same way, isn't it? Its just that online you might encounter a more diverse crowd than you normally do in your daily life - so there is more need to be on your toes. At least that is my impression.

Actually RiotGirl, while I completely understand your sentiment...no I don't feel this way. Not anymore at least. In the past few months I have done a bit of soul searching. I was in a headspace a few months ago where I was frustrating myself more than I ever should have. It was about these damned boards and the whole political correctness issue. It was over the fact that no matter what it was I said, someone took issue with it or was offended by it. Well what I came to realize is two things.

Number 1 - I don't feel that we necessarily should have to say "this is just my opinion" because I am obviously not writing down "your" opinion...the fact that it is "my" opinion should be abundantly clear without the disclaimer. If I don't feel like saying it....I don't. And if someone gets in a snit over it....oh well....it's not my snit.

Number 2 - I have also come to realize that I really don't care much if someone takes offense or disagrees, I don't have to try to turn my way of thinking around to their way, nor do I have to apologize for having my own opinion. I am as entitled to it as anyone else here is entitled to theirs.....and you are too.

Put your thoughts out there as you wish, that is what these boards are here for, the sharing of DIFFERENT thoughts and ideas. If someone doesn't like them, is it really going to make any difference in the way you and Yours live it?

I'm not very politically correct. I am of a very submissive nature. Naturally submissive, considered slave by many.

I am intelligent and have lots of common sense. I require a certain level of respect. If I am told to do something and I know it could be detrimental to my well being I will speak up. I pair myself only with those that are not threatened by intelligence.

I have no need to go behind a dominants back. If the dominant creates a need for me to hide something this tells me I'm serving the wrong person.

I choose to post because I understand there are many different viewpoints & I am sometimes prompted to post mine. Sometimes after reading a post I can only shake my head in disgust and move on.

In some cases I post to help give perspective to those that are new to D/s & BDSM. Especially when it comes to the line of thinking that just because one chooses to submit to another they have to accept abusive behavior as a part of their servitude. This simply is not true.

LMAO! Loved that OP Riot Girl!!

yes, we're living in a very "politically correct" society now a days...it makes me puke! plain and simple.

i'm guilty of the disclaimer only because i got fed up with others taking offense to every little opinion i had, shoving it in my face that it was MY opinion....well, yeah, it is MY opinion and no one elses....lol.

Over all i must say i do enjoy these boards a lot...duh, i post every day practically lol.....but i find the majority here to be quite interesting and i enjoy the little debates that go on, other wise, how boring would it be?!

excellent post, riot.

I am a left over hippie and therefore I am far from attempting political correctness. I don't try to please everyone out there. I'd be a fool to attempt that.

Although not subscribing to political correctness, I still believe in extending My courtesies to others though, since being courteous never cost anyone anything.

Lord Tallyrand once explained that the mark of a great diplomat was when a person could tell another to go to hell and the other person ask for directions.

I am not a diplomat, however.

roflmao...I absolutely love that!
I guess I do try to be a diplomat, but I have been bitchy a time or two on these boards. Mostly it is in response to a disrespectful, "I AM RIGHT AND FUCK EVERYONE ELSE" types of posts. I have seen this from submissives, Doms and Dominas.
I do not try to be politically correct. I do not worry about hurting feelings. Because I don't think I do. When I get bitchy it is toward someone who is not going to be affected by it anyway.
I just try not to do it, because then I am going down to their level. And I am better than that! *weg*
I have read a number of threads and have been pretty angry. Not about the opinion. Everybody is entitled to that. I object to the tone of the posts. So I just refuse to get involved in those threads. I'm not going to take part in pointless mud-slinging.
*Disclaimer* YMMV, This is only My opinion! *W*

I agree with erin's post.

I would like to add that I don't think anyone is expecting political correctness here. However respect extended to one's collarme peers would be much appreciated.

One does not have to agree with someone's idea to respect it. Once can also have a healthy debate with someone and be completely respectful.

Call me lazy, but being politically correct is too much work for me.

I label people, then I file them neatly away in my memory. Are my "labels" set in stone? Not really. Should my labels affect people? Absolutely not, and if it does then there are bigger issues in your life than my opinion of you.

It's called a first impression and people need to get over it. There always have been and always will be labeling--what's important is to know yourself and understand why people perceive you the way they do.

If you told me you were...a poodle, I would disagree with you. I wouldn't accept the fact that you are a poodle. I might respectfully tell you, "Honey, your hair is just frizzy. You're not a poodle." But at the end of the day, I can't change what you are in your own mind.

Does that makes any sense? I don't "accept" other people's labels. I just accept that to them they are what they are in their own mind and my personal thoughts are probably irrelevant to their lives.

I almost always think my view is the correct view. I'm not a bitch about it, but yes, I generally think I'm right.

And I agree with onceburned. I've seen a very real openess towards discussing relationship problems like disobediences and limits etc etc.

Good OP, RiotGirl. And I found this point particularly interesting because in most discussion groups I have seen, most of the topics regarding something being difficult are things such as finding enough time for your Dom/me, how to learn to do something better, or how you just haven't learned how to do all of the 435 positions you're expected to know in six months, etc. I don't recall reading very often that sometimes you just damn well don't FEEL like obeying and as you said, it is NOT always easy.

However, I'm not sure about being jumped for saying it.........but then again, I've already had my union card revoked by the Submissive Local No. 635 for not being a "twue submissive".......

Be well,
harmony

ummm RiotGirl? You forgot a few hon.... "true" and "real"... lol

Like so many others, I do believe that it's possible to voice ones "own" opinion is a respectful way, not that I believe that always happens. I've seen some fairly serious attacks on others on these boards that could have easily been avoided and a great topic could have been salvaged. I understand exactly where you are coming from though. If you don't want to be subject to one of the mighty flame wars it's best to keep it "politically correct".

For me, knowing that I will eventually run into something that I posted is what keeps me level headed when I write (99% of the time). I don't want to go off on some newbie knowing that someday I may have to read the poison that I put out here for the world to see. That is not how I want the world to see me, that isn't how I am in real life. I don't want anyone to be offended by what I say, but in the same light, I say what I truly feel. If someone is offended by my beliefs, then I'm sorry. But if I hurt someone by my "verbal attacks" then I am devastated, that is not my idea of sharing my thoughts or ideas.

I've seen posts where someone says that you can't earn "respect" by your posts here because you can say anything and there are lots of people that are well versed in how to portray themselves as something they are not... to a point, I agree. But.... you can lose what modicum of respect you may have had for someones words easily enough after seeing "the other side" of that person where the "teaching", or "stating of opinions" stops and the anger, sarcasm, and back biting begins.

Again, just my opinion.

Jewel

Hey, I have a question here. Please forgive me, I was homeschooled after all: What is Political Correctness?

Hahaha, ok I'm joking. Yes, like others have said, political correctness is something that isn't always displayed by most folk on the board. People pretty much state there own opinions. Sometimes the majority agree on the opinion, but it is still a unique opinion.

political correctness? What's that? I would go bonkers if I tried to keep up with everything that is suppose to be politically correct, some days I forget what my name is,LOL. I find that just trying to be the most respectful that you can is enough here, even when you don't agree with someone it is the tone of the words that get you jumped on. Also the ones I see being flamed most often are the ones that don't give much thought to their posts or questions, and just put them out there without clarity or thought, that leads to misunderstanding and sometimes judgement. I trust what I feel to be right and if I am not, and someone can point it out in a nonconfrontual way, I tend to listen and to do some homework of my own and if I find a different pt of veiw, will let that person know I appreciate their way of thinking and I walk away having learned something, I beleive alot of the flames come from the way a topic was presented, by the way riotgirl, this is a great thread.

Wannabees and often newbies do not understand both the intelligence nor the enormous internal strength it takes to be either submissive or a slave. So often they think subs are mindless. I have in my many years met a very few mindless subs, but I think I would not acutally classifiy them as subs, but more as dysfunctional victims looking for a perpetrator.

I would say the PC of society in general, has made it so the clueless guys who are just lost and scared and think "I'll just find me a sub girl who will do whatever I want", to be abounding. The anonymity of the net only exacerbates the problem.

I recommend you use some of that internal strength and develop a bit of 'water off a duck' mentality.

Stand your ground and say whatever the fuck you would like.
