I guess there is a joke here, but the heading, is so offensive that I can't see anything else...I spend a lot of time working with the police department in my area, and they are a fantastic group of people. Not only do they put their lives at risk for us, but usually each shift they are out they have to put up with rude, dishonest, and down right stupid people, not to mention criminals. Before anyone refers to a police office in a rude manner they should do a ride-a-long, and maybe you will see for yourself how tough a job it is.

There are a LOT of problems with the system. And people take their anger out on the individual cops. Stopping people going home from work because they were going 5 mph over the limit just isn't good police work in my opinion. Especially when the latest numbers show that crime is up across the board all over the country. Gang activity, shootings, rape.... it's all going up. And then the only thing people see the cops doing is pointing their radar guns at every car hoping to make some revenue for the city and fill their quota.

So my buddy is driving home from work with expired plates and gets pulled over by the cops. Fix-it ticket. He gets back in his car and drives on. 3 blocks later he is pulled over by different cops. He jumps out of his car yelling "DONT YOU PEOPLE HAVE ANY CRIMINALS TO CATCH?" Probably not the best way of dealing with armed officers of the law at 3am, but it did seem to work for him. Sinergy

I hear that comment all the time, why do police officers ticket people, for rolling stops, going less than 10 miles over the limit, or for equipment problems? Two reason of many...1. It is a violation But more importantly...2. Traffic stops catch lots of people who have warrents, and/or DUI, and/or have probation violation. Again if you know about the police department in your area, you may find out that the fees for tickets are much less important than their use as an anti-crime tool.

I agree the tag line was a poor choice. However I have lived in LOTS of places....(moved 30 times and I'm only 33) and some towns the police were wonderful and did a great service to all and in others the cops sucked. I don't think you can presume because those in your town are wonderful all are wonderful. (Alabma) When I was 16 years old I was dating a man old enough to drink. We would cruise the little town we lived in on the weekends both drinking beer. We would pull up next to the local on patrol that night and he would allow us to drink as long as we shared. Yeah...no ride alongs in THAT town, let me tell you. (New Hampshire) When I was a kid...babysitting kids...I called the police because I heard a strange noise. Within less than 10 minutes I had 3 cars (2 unmarked) and 5 officers checking the place out for me. Those men in blue deserved accolades...I was a very scared 12 year old with three other little ones in my charge that night.

Yes, and if you had to take all the phone calls from people in neighborhoods who DEMAND those officers to sit there pointing their radar guns at those people doing 5 miles over the speed limit, then you'd know that they are out there at the request of the public. Before you criticize officers, you should do the ride-along....and before you yell at the person answering the phone, you should sit with them also. I've lost count of the times I've had arrogant members of society give me the tired old line of "I'm a taxpayer, and I pay your salary! I want something done NOW!".....well, let me clue ya'll in on something...I'M a taxpayer too.....does that make me self-employed? I would so love to tell the next person who pulls that line on me that I want a raise! OK, done ranting......but just remember, the person out there making sure that there is some order to society isn't doing it for the glory, the benefits, and definitely NOT the money....they are doing so because they think that they may actually be able to make a difference. m
