Despite whatever Falwell may be Hitchens is the fraud...he can't defend a point because he doesn't have one. Somehow he has transformed himself into a hot ticket despite being a drunken slob. I remember when he was a guest speaker at a school I went to and after his first lecture he spent the rest of the evening and the subsequent night drinking in a cave (swear to the god I don't believe in) with my friends. The next morning he was supposed to give another lecture (lecture= string of provocative non sequitur statements) and he gave it...while still in his same nasty white suit he was wearing the day before and still drunk. When asked to defend a point he'd just say he didn't have to. What a croc.

Hitchens cuts a sad figure.

He used to be a fully paid up member of Trotskyist ideology.

He vehemently opposed the first invasion of Iraq on the grounds that it was impeding the space of sovereign nations.

At some point, he changed his mind. The suggestion over here is that he was bought in return for promotion.

I don't know if you saw a debate between Hitchens and Galloway. It was somewhere in the US - think it was Boston or New York - hosted by Amy Goodman who presents your Democracy Now series. Anyway, Galloway absolutely wiped the floor with him and made him look like the fraud he quite clearly is.
