How can a man have safe sex if he's allergic to condoms and not the spermicide that goes in them? This guy I know  can't wear condoms or even latex gloves without developing a bad rash. I've heard lamb skin condoms are worthless in protecting against pregnancy and std's. Do allergy shots help or is there any type of medication a man can take that will eliminate the symptoms?

He should check with his physician. Is that the only reaction the latex causes?

Severe rashes are the only reaction as far as I know. He did go to the doctor and was just told he's allergic to latex. He doesn't want to risk getting std's or getting someone pregnant and thinks his sex life is over. That's why I was asking if anyone knew of a solution.

Are these the same as lambskin? If not, do they offer the same protection against pregnancy and std's as latex?

i tried the polywhatchit condoms when i thought i was allergic to latex. be careful, they bust really easy.
i'm curious that the dr. told him he was allergic,,, did the dr. test him or just say that becuase the reaction happened apon latex contact?
i thought for the longest time my allergy was latex, and avoided it like the plague.
turned out i was allergic to the sanitizing powder,,, it is not used as much now because lot's of people were allergic to it but thought they
were allergic to latex.
are female condoms made out of latex? this might be an option.
  hope this can help- phoenix

Here is a better one - what to do if one is allergic to both latex and nonoxynol-9?  There are excellent nonlatex condoms other than lambskin -- Trojan Supra is one brand, Durex Avanti another.  They are some kind of PVC I think.  They transmit body warmth better than latex but don't stretch as well and don't come in large size.

But both brands have Nonoxynol-9!  So if you are sensitive to that too you are screwed, and not in a good way.

Thanks everyone for all the great advice. My friend will be happy to know his sex life isn't over after all.

Latex is actually a very bad allergy. It is different in that it gets progressively worse as one comes in contact with it.

i'll agree.  the more you come in contact with latex, the worse it gets.  from a simple rash up to a life-threatening closing of the throat reaction.

and what MOST people dont realize is that in the interests of "food safety", most dining establishments now have their kitchen staff using latex gloves to prepare food.  i know my particular allergy is latex because i react to things like bandaids (the adhesive contains natural latex), specific underwear (elastic is latex), balloons (yeah)....

as of yet all i get is a rash.  but i know that could change at any time.
