im at Uni studying a degree in mental health and i have just had my 1st experience of E-Learning, i have to say coming onto Forums like this one and the interaction of the people who use it has helped prepare me greatly for e-learning,

Before today i didnt know you could do e-learning effectively or interactively and wasnt really sure if i would understand what the lecturers wanted from us, but with past experiences such as CM it was a pleasant surprise and tomorrows session will be easier for it! lol Still think the better learning experience is in the lecture halls or work placement tho.

Really is just a thanks to all the ppl who use such forums.

mental health- well then- getting in the field....never a dull day. one client tries to eat lighbulbs.

The Internet-based tools for classes are great. My favorite classes are those with professors who make good use of it. It makes life so much easier. Notes, grades, presenations, contact to all professors, TA's, and other students, links to related sites, message boards.. seriously, those things are a God-send.

I've long been curious about E-Learning, could those of you that have utilized this explain how it works? Especially when it comes to communication with others during a course.
Thankies in advance for feeding my curiousity. Alas I wanted to use the word 'slaking' instead of feeding but had a brain freeze & became unsure of its validity as a word lol.

internet classes did not go to well for me.

my attention span just isnt there.

I took an online class Fall semester - hated it. The prof basically just gave us 4 tests on certain sections and had us turn in a paper - very little interaction otherwise.

For myself, that isn't a great learning environment - I prefer to be in a class interacting with the instructor - I learn much better that way. I would be hard pressed to even consider taking another one again unless absolutely necessary.

I can see the potential in such classes if you have time restraints in getting to and from college, though.

They are better than nothing and perfectly valid, but it doesn't work well at all for me. I want immediate connection, feedback, and I know I don't feel as invested in the material.

The rising trend in E-Learning is "Blended" Learning, where the online experience is an adjunct to the Face-to-Face coursework.

Automation *does* help everyone manage the workload more effectively. Instructors seem to like to be able to grade work at any time, without having to haul around another tote-bag.
