Congrats  Hope thingswork out well for the two of you
If you can't upload the pictures here, you could always put up a Catster.com page for her.
Our four cats were all from shelters... only two of them will wear collars, though, the other two remove them within a day (they're all strictly indoor).

Gauge....

Congrats on your addition!  Don't be surprised if you find yourself contemplating adding another to your household....my rule of thumb is no one should have just one cat...i am owned by 3!  I got my first one from a woman I worked with, but the other two are garage sale kitties....pound-bound if no one took them home....my roommate and I, both HUGE suckers, ended up taking all four of them, we found homes for two, I kept the other 2.  The two my parents have are humane society kitties....there were 3, but mom didn't think that dad would appreciate all 3, so she took Lacey and Tabby....she told my dad about the 3rd one, he asked her why she didn't bring it on home also.....he figures 2 or 3, it's all the same.  She went back the next day, but someone had already adopted the third one.  In fact, all of our pets were adopted from someplace that didn't want them.

Don't be surprised if you find yourself losing control in your house.....cats just DO that.......enjoy!

my Sho-gun wasnt a rescue........but my Um's cat Ferdinand is........she had to have a solid black cat and since "Himself" is getting up there in years i promised her i would get her a kitten......well let me tell you no 2 were more suited for each other than those 2........he "talks" to her all the time and eats from her bowl *and she is a veggie* its amazing to watch a cat eat tofu and lettuce!

I got my cat from a farm.  I've never been able to collar that little nutcase.  She freaks out and starts flailing around like she's having a seizure.  I have affectionately named her Daemon.

Today it became official. I collared someone for the first time.

Hey! Maybe Congress will pass a resolution declaring a second cat-based holiday. So, instead of just having Daisy Day (July 27...mark your calendars), we'll also have Gauge's Rescued Cat Day.

Bob

I have written my congressman. Hopefully it will be a paid day off...

Sure! A paid holiday, close the banks, the post offices, picnic, parades, fireworks...the whole shebang. I'll write your congressman, too.

Alley is a great name. I look forward to seeing pictures of her. I have some pics of Otis and Daisy on my profile. I am very glad for you.

Bob

Coongratulations on your collar!  I have just weined two kittens that I bottle fed several weeks .. strays ..  found in an abandoned house.

I have adopted many pets over the years from shelters and they have all been so loveing .. grateful to be loved I think

I now have 2 kittens and 2 dogs who will be smaller than the kittens when they are full grown ... I keep telling my Yorkie to remember that " sophie and anabelle" will be bigger than he is soon.. and paybacks are hell.

My chihuahua princess cant be bothered with the kittens yet lol ..

Yeah, and I also had a scaredy cat kitten hanging around my place, and the SPCA loaned me a trap to catch the lil monster.

I haven't collared either of them, though -- they're both doms.

Congratulations Gauge! Many happy years together. What did you name her?

Her name is Alley. Now, to explain why. When she was brought to the shelter she was a stray. They named her Gypsy. I wasn't overly thrilled with Gypsy as a name so I thought about Cleopatra or Alexandra. Then it dawned on me, a good female name would be Alley and still keep the connotation of her wanderlust.

How adorable! Sounds like the perfect name. Let us know when there are pics available.

congratulations for you and Alley; may you have many, many wonderful years together.

i've rescued cats before from shelters. the two i have now were adopted from an individual. i'm still waiting for them to collar me. they don't wear collars as they're totally indoor cats.

I'm currently owned by eight cats, the youngest of whom was rescued from this winter's -18 degree temperatures.  Most of my kitties were taken in from the streets or various rescue agencies.

Remember, you can collar a cat, but you can never own it.
So it's more an "I will now have to get up at 7 and feed you or lose all the skin off of my feet" collar, than an ownership collar

The pictures are now up on my profile. Unfortunately you have to wade through several pictures of me to get to them.

I may end up posting a video on YouTube as well. I'll think about that one though.

Thanks everyone for the congrats. I would love more than one cat but the fact is that I do live in a rather small apartment and two or more cat's just wouldn't be feasible.

As far as "owning" Alley, I would never presume to claim such an outrageous thing. She is allowing me to take care of her... Is this topping from the bottom?

It sounds like you now know everything you need to about cat ownership!

Congtrats Gauge!  It is certainly an extremely thoughtful act to rescue an animal.....As I read through the posts I realize that KatyLied is becoming more beautiful to me everyday.....She's allergic to critters.....I'm allergic to critters!!!

Gauge as a new pet owner, when you look at KatyLied's avatar does it look as if she might be sporting the ears of a cocker spaniel?  I would hate to think that our new found love could go potentially unfulfilled on account of some awful dander disorder.

She is adorable!!!!!!  Looks like mine.....here's hoping that yours is a little lady, and not an evil one......watch your rolls of toilet paper, as that seems to be almost impossible for any cat to resist.  Just one suggestion, if she shows signs of scratching on the furniture, there are these inexpensive corrogated cardboard scratching things at Wally-world...(they have the best price on them) that my cats absolutely love.  The catnip helps, i'm sure!  They are in a purple box, usually up high where i can't erach them, of course!

As long as we're trying to get the national holiday, see if you can't work on getting them accepted as dependents!  You'll know soon enuf!

This never crossed my mind. Now that you mention it, it does appear that she might be hiding something. Perhaps she is not who she claims to be?
