ORIGINAL: Calandra Salt: ALWAYS always always add 1/4 to 1/2 tsp. of salt to an enema. You would think that putting liquid up yer backside would cause you to retain too much water. WRONG. You can actually confuse the colon (remember it's in charge of determining the consistency of your bowel movements) and trigger dehydration superfast if you do not add the salt. The salt makes your body want to retain water and this is a good thing with enema play. It's actually the opposite. If you add TOO much salt (making the enema solution hypertonic), it can cause dehydration because it pulls water out of body tissues and into the colon. If you don't add any or enough salt, water will be drawn out of the colon and into the body tissues...which can cause electrolyte imbalances, but probably not enough to harm unless it's a huge enema or repeated ones.
