This has been on the cards for a while. Members of the Jewish community are involved.

Prominent Jewish comedians, actors, authors, historians etc are vociferous in their opposition to the Israeli government and want the British government to use its limited power to do something about the actions of the Israeli government. They realise this is futile, so they've decided to do whatever they can.

It's a human rights movement. It's nothing to do with anti-semitism. The reality is that the Israeli government is bulldozing Palestinian homes, grabbing their land and building homes for Israelis. It's ethnic cleansing.

Boycotting contacts with fellow academics is typical PC liberal authoritarianism. and will achieve nothing much.

In the middle East some form of compromise is essential from BOTH sides for any progress to be made. The omens are not good !

Seems to me to be a measured response.....it may not have a dramatic effect on its own, but it is nevertheless the sort of thing we all ought to be doing. What does Israel export? Let's boycott it until they stop treating neighbouring countries as firing ranges......if we do this and reclaim the moral high ground then maybe those Palestinians with inaccurate rockets will start lisening to us.
