"People of the Web"

"Somebody's Watching You"

A convicted felon turns cameras on the cops, putting a balance of power, he says, back in the hands of the people.

"I raise my fist because I want that justice; don't get my freedom, gonna have to take my freedom." — Sherman Austin, from his song "Raise the Fist"

" LOS ANGELES - On May Day, 2007, the Los Angeles police made front page news after clashing with protesters in a public park. Images of baton-wielding officers and cowering protesters, journalists among them, renewed an angry debate over police brutality in a city still scarred by the memory of the Rodney King beating.  Citizen video has left an indelible mark on Los Angeles. The King video is the best-known example, but far from the only one. In 2002, a tourist filmed 16-year-old Donovan Jackson being punched and slammed against a police cruiser in Inglewood. Last year, a UCLA student taped an incident in which another student was hit by a stun gun at a school library. The video spread quickly across the Internet.
"This type of stuff happens every day in L.A.," says Sherman Austin, founder of Cop Watch LA, an activist group that was quick to post images and clips of the May Day incident. "It's just a coincidence sometimes there's a video camera around to videotape." '

That's the LAPD for you.  In the interest of fairness though, if you see the whole video of the guy getting punched and slammed into the car (not normally shown on the news), you can see the cop grimace in pain when the 'poor, innocent victim' grabbed his balls and squeezed.

What they should have done is backed up a bus and any protester that is here illegally is shipped back to Mexico...

Sorry but I dont feel much compassion for people that came in here illegally and demand rights they don't have while marching in America's streets waving Mexican flags.

I think I posted on these boards about my experience with the LAPD last fall.  Yikes.

Rich, I have heard a wide variety of stories about the LAPD.

Cyberdude, did you read the whole article?  It is not about the immigration rally.

lovewithoutfear, would you care to share your story again?

ok- on the LAPD. you cant tell me they are any worse then Detroit, Chicago, New York.

per capita LA has less police per capita.

rodney king. here goes.  what did he ever do for the people of LA ? he got millions $$$ did he help out his inner city folks???
NOPE. he drugged and drugged and had several additional scrapes with the law.

now lemme ask this. what do you think happens in AMERICAS prisons ???  do you think no one is beaten, or tasered or gassed ????

The essence of Los Angelos is to manufacture reality. at least LA is upfront about it, unlike Washington DC.

WTF on this one- to burn down Watts AGAIN.  ohhhhhhhhhhh that will show da man!  burn down your neighbors and brothers place.  T-H-I-N-K.

I dont support police brutality. But it my opinion LA PD is held to a different standard.

1968- Chicago democratic convention- police went wild with mayham.

Incidently- they want to turn the gay park straight here. so im not rah rah police. consider whom pays the policemans salary. businesses- affluent. so homeless and folks who fall thru the cracks get pushed around.

Policemen here earn $11 an hour.  just $11.00.  look real close at msnbcs prison documentaries. look at the men incarcerated.

most people live and let live- but there are the barbaric among us that would rape and pillage the weak.

11.00 $ an hour.

I thank law enforcement. :-)
