solvr70 -> The difference between a sub and bottom (6/1/2007 8:17:50 AM)

i've heard a number of different ideas around this, and i'm sure there will be all kinds of different ideas here as well.

i've heard that a bottom's interests are more specifically sexual in nature then a sub.

i'd be interested in what the difference between a sub and a bottom is.

The fun part of course is that a person can be BOTH a sub and a bottom, even in the same relationship

My quick definition.....  A bottom is someone who takes the role for play (bedroon-type) only.  A submissive is who takes that role for more than just sex.

(With Tina Turner wailing in the background, come on, sing with me!!!)

What's sex got to do with it, got to do with it?

In the usual vernacular, a bottom is someone who 'receives' during sensation play/painplay/SM play.

A submissive is a relationship dynamic where they 'submit' a portion of their will (choices, decision-making) to another.  It might or might not involve 'play' at all.

Another fun part is that a person can be BOTH a bottom and a Master, even in the same relationship. ;-) Rather reminds me of a mix-n-match story book.

I wouldn't restrict bottom to meaning sexual or bedroom (simply because I do not believe all scenes/sensations/ are always sexual).
My personal definition is that a bottom is simply the person on the receiving end.

And another fun part is someone can be a submissive top as well -

A submissive submits to a Dominant, sometimes in the bedroom, sometimes out of the bedroom, sometimes part of the time, sometimes 24/7.

A bottom is  a person who likes to be the recipient of what the Top can dish out. Whether it be pain, humilation, spanking etc. This does not make a person submissive, as I know of some Dominants who have their submissives Top them and tell them exactly what they will do and the submissive follows the orders.
