G'morning all: I realise this will stir up some folks, but I couldn't think of any other appropriate title for the thread. Have you seen "Passion of the Christ"? It's got to be the bloodiest religious epic known to man. I rented it from Netflix and didn't watch it till last night. Now I see what all the hub-bub was about. Cripes. The punishment scene where they scourge Jesus was quite disturbing and I'm agnostic! A friend in im thought the sadist in me would be drooling. All the movie did was totally gross me out. If you like blood play, have at it, but DAMN. The violence precluded the story line completely. Forget about character development or even acting for that matter. Ok, done venting, lol. I thought the movie was excellent for the most part. Very accurate. Some of it was a little bit over-acted and melodramatic though, but really quite good overall.

There are elements of S&M in many aspects of life. Many religions have many parallels and aspects to bdsm and Ds and many people say they feel a religious type of connection to it. However, I think its deeply overstating things to say that "religion" IS "bdsm"

South Park had a nice send up of the Passion. Who knew Mel Gibson was into all that stuff? [:D]

Though the crusifixion of christ was darn sadistic. But relgion itself dose not dictate to do such. Perhaps you are agnostic but that dosen't have to do anything with the movie. It's a historical document that a person really went through with the pain and dying. Imagining happening done to someone are to yourself would give most ppl the shivers. Ofcourse if you remember the movie "A Clockwork Orange" the main character read the bible and got off imagining himself being a Roman Guard with a whip. I think the movie was very well done and Crusifixion is endeed been noted as one of the most cuel and vicious ways to die. Now the inquisition and past torture methods are very interesting. Men useing religion for the right to use all sorts of whips, chains, divices, fire, water, and such to be sadist. In that retrospec Religion did endeed become BDSM but without the submission to the accused. However, there is documention of Priest/Monks who whip themselvse are seek out pain to cleanse there own wicked thoughts and past actions.

Just not from your point of view. My take on that scene was that I would've had a stronger reaction if I had an active belief system in Christianity. I imagine there are some folks who would agree from personal experience. Also, if you could spell/grammar check next time? I haven't seen it, but I used to play Jesus (I'm a girl) when I was a kid, just so that I could be beaten and crucified. I never saw that as part of my budding tendencies until just recently. [&:]

There are many many connections... I would recommend checking out the ascetic tradition in the Christian East (Greek) ... I majored in religion in college and rather enjoyed what I was able to learn. There are some crazy crazy stories, including the story of Saint Ida, who actually became alive with fish and had them swimming in her body, etc... it's actually better than a lot of the fiction on the market today, lol
