swtnsparkling -> Please Help!! I've never seen this before (6/4/2007 6:16:58 PM)

I cannot access some sites.I cannot access any Help's and  some links don't work this message shows up every time:
quote:

SSL Alert

The browser and the web-site cannot communicate securely because there are no common encryption algorithms.
Please try the following:
- Check the SSL protocol settings on the browser for SSLv3/TLSv1 protocol support.
- The secure web-site may be using high-strength encryption algorithms(128 bit).
Check the SSL settings on your browser, if it supports high-strength encryption algorithms.
- Upgrade your browser to latest version.

Just to let you know - I have upgraded browser it is 128
I check Internet options and There is SSL 2  SSL 3 and they are clicked
Please anyone any ideas? I'd appreciate a fix very much.
Thanks

You could try lowering the security settings, but that's mostly just a guess. What browser are you using?

First of all you left out too much to get any meaningful help.

Your OS, do you go through a router and is the browser IE6 or what ?

If it is Windows and IE6, ironically you might want to try unchecking SSL3. That might force the website to a lower encreyption.

Another very important piece of information is whether you have ever been able to get on these sites. And then the most important question is, what happened next ? Did you install anything ? Did scandisk run the day before ? Did you clear the internet cache or your cookies ?

Cookies will not contain the algorythm, but might have web references to them, or critical parts of them. In this way they can assure that only your computer has access to it.

Clearing the cache and deleting cookies is overrated. Some people tell you your PC will be ten times faster, they are full of baloney. In the old days when we had little 2.1 GB harddrives yes it was a good idea, but today, you can't even set it high enough to be a problem. If you set it to 1 GB it will never cause a problem on say an 80 GB. Shit, 200 GBs are common now.

Thing is, when messing with something as shitty as Windows, you strive not to change things once it runs everything you want it to run. And you strive not to let anything else do it either. When I see people got these Yahoo and Google toolbars I think to myself "Someone around here either doesn't know about PCs or is a moron or something". You have a thing called favorite places USE THAT. Once Windows runs right, STOP RIGHT THERE.

I know you are going to install some things, but when you do and you see "Do you want X to be your default for ________", learn to say no. "Do you want us to check your registry ?", HELL NO.

OK, that was just a precursor about Windows, but if you give more specific information we can maybe figure this out rather than just giving broadbased, general suggestions.

We are all ears.

This was a not uncommon problem with Windows ME.

In IE6, click Help and then About Internet Explorer. The second line should show Cipher Strength: 128-bit.

If you're running ME and it says 0 or 56-bit, go here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q261328

You can also trying going to Internet Options, click the Advanced tab, and then click Restore Advanced Settings at the bottom. It's possible you turned off SSL or changed a setting.

Here's a page to check your browser:
