Agreed - I've been there, suffered in silence, got the scars to prove it, but since having thankfully come out of the other end of the long dark tunnel I can openly talk about it with people, and hopefully reassure them that they are not alone in this, and that while a dark, terrible thing, it is actually very common and nothing to be ashamed of or embarrassed about. Sending you a smile and a wink pahunkboy - life's not as bad as it seems, especially when you've got people on boards like this who listen and understand! [;)]

So true. I've been fighting depression for a long time. I'm a katrina survivor and I'm just now beginning to see a little glow down the tunnel. I love the Three Stooges and it took 2 months of daily 1 hr doses of those three madcaps befer I could laugh. Most days are ok but I live alone and that doesn't help Had knee surgery last fall. I can't exercise so I've gained weight I live with pain and not just my knees. So! hang in there pahunkboy you're not alone

depression is a very hard thing i am bipolar and i get depressed alot but the medication helps alot also ross.g

I'm a depression surviver m'self, but only because my wife helped drag me out of hell. That and the fact my drugs are little sprinkles from heaven... and I'm on SSDI....and...well it goes on. The point is that whenever I thought I had tried everything there was to try, something else floated along. I still get tripped up, but experience tells me that eventually it will get better. The one thing that is hardest to do is to go out and be with other people, even when you don't want to. Being by yourself makes it a million times worse. Hanging out here works for me if there's no one else around.;-) A random trip to the beach helps too. I know its a bit of a drive from central PA, but it's good for a last resort.

tonight i feel like throwing ALL my phones into the river. im discusted over a pattern with a few real life ppl in general. as odd as this may sound- this board is the only thing that would notice me missing.

Agreed, depression sucks. Pollyanna way of thinking is sometimes necessary to get through the hard times. Try to look at everything with positive eyes, even if it's hard. There's always some light at the end of the tunnel, even though it's hard to see it sometimes. Cognitive behavioral therapy helps alot of people too.

Depression. The bane of my existence. I totally can relate, pahunkboy, and others. I have to ask, altho I know it is meant to be helpful and supportive...why do people always say things like life is not so bad as it seems...? It just kinda seems that way sometimes. Again, to the couple of folks who said it, I know it was meant in a supportive way. Curious LadyDominaX, could you say more about how Cognitive therapy has ben helpful, without getting too personal. I am considering it for myself. I think I've had my fill with psychodynamic therapy. Thanx for any info. MNN

A short review of cognitive behavioural therapy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cognitive_behavioural_therapy For me it worked, along with antidepressants. I'm happy to say I've been free from depression for 3 years now. And even though the times were dark I never thought at that time that life would ever be as fulfilling as it is for me now

Man, I completely know how you feel. I've been depressed a large part of my life (endless years), but things have been getting better over the past few months. There are good and bad periods. Just have to find the things in life that make you feel good about yourself, happy.

sometimes too many thing bother me. being that everyone uses a cell phone; dont call and use the persons minutes. ok- i can wait till after 9pm. i tried numerous times to reach my sister this past week. well- then last night around 11pm- i reached my brother- the one who was going to help make this palce nice. well he was on the other line with my sister. it was 1 am till he rang back which i was in bed then. what was so very urgent that - the call could not be on a 3 way call? add up the excuses as to why someone cant talk. quite an array. so why am i bothering with a phone? i think ild like him to return the 5k he has of mine. he isnt going to get to my place before winter- i can see teh writing on the wall. yesderday cari could not talk cause she was on her way to get gas. today she cant talk cause she is mad. add that to the list if her tv shows are on, or she is seeing her boyfreind or going to the casino. mom cant talk cos it is using her minutes. if no one is reachaable by phone- my trip is to happen how ??? drive out and get a motel 6? if they are home they are- if not not.? i better call the furnace man; and see how we can redo my ductwork so i can afford to heat the place here. it is rather like a twilight zone adventure. here i thought if i patiently wait my turn- the family or friends would get to me. someday never comes. this cycle --i dont like living on possibilities. if you tell me 10pm. i expect 10 pm or 10:10. not 2 weeks later. i guess it cll goes with modern culture. this begs the question of a previous thread- what or where is home. "ill call you right back" bull shit
