They need to think 21st Century. Their Website is any non-profit's BEST marketing & promotions asset, and the really smart ones will offer value right there. Think of it this way, if they offered something COOL, maybe I would have hit the "Donate Now" button... At the very least, use it to collect contact info for later appeals & communication!

i don't know. i think a museum is it's own best promotion. 21st century. that's an oxymoron to most types of museum. they deal in history.

I'm 150 miles up the Thruway, and I'm not quite sure when I'll be able to make it down, or if some other event doesn't win out for my attention and/or dollar. Every museum has, as part of it's mission statement or charter, a goal of education and outreach. No easier or cost-effective way, I contend. Oh well, maybe they'll tour..

i'm not entirely disagreeing with you. they are mostly for locals and the dreaded tourists. i suppose i am spoiled by the city being an hour from me, but i'd feel that way about this situation no matter where the museum. can you not imagine middle america saying, "why go to the museum when i can see all the stuff online?" i know i've heard it said. i'm STILL trying to convince someone to take a trip with me upstate to cooperstown.
